Outside Temperture gauge misreading

My outside temp gauge has started reading wrong, not all the time though, it seems if it is switched off when it is cold it remembers that temperture, so when starting up on a sunny warm afternoon today, the car still thought it was 3degrees so promptly started the fuel burner heater.

I assume that this is a sensor problem, or is it something more worrying?

Mark,

I think your right - that its a sensor problem - had a similar fault on a friends BMW.

I would recommend getting it looked at because if your D3 thinks its 3 degrees but its really 25 degress you could have a serious problem with overheating.

Let us know the final fault when you get sorted.

Best of luck!

If it's remembering the last temp at switch off then I think it's more likely to be an 'Automatic Temperature Control Module' issue as I don't think the sensor can retain temperature information as it has no residual memory.
