Overtaking blind spot - any solutions?
Every so often i caught out by not seeing a car in the mirror because it has been sitting in the blind spot. So far I have managed to avoid an accident as I've sensed rather than seen that something was there.
I know the cheap and cheerful solution is to buy a stick-on mirror to fit inside the existing mirror but thought I would check and see if there any other possible solutions worth considering.
Get in the habit of looking over your shoulder as well as using the mirror. Cheaper than any other option.LRs are a fond memory, apart from the maintenance.

Have some thought as to how you set your mirrors...
On the drivers side door mirror what do you adjust to ?
With your D4 parked
I set the height so that the bottom left hand corner just sees the back drivers side rear door handle then just the mirror out a bit more ...
To check this get someone to walk from the rear of your car out to the along side position....
You'll find the blind spot is in reality a small gap between the extent of your inside rear view mirror to the left side of you door mirror.
Set the passenger side the same way
I was shown this by a Police Class 1 driver.....the time it takes is well worth it
A bit of experimentation is worthwhileBREXIT - done properly.

If you are checking all your mirrors frequently enough then you should already be aware of the vehicle overtaking you..

I should have also said that on most occasions I do look over my shoulder but obviously not every time otherwise I wouldn't have been nearly caught out. The times it has happened have been when coming onto a very busy motorway with multiple lanes on the slip road so that you are trying to watch traffic coming round both sides of you and therefore trying to keep an eye on all mirrors as well as the traffic in front. On such occasions it would be helpful if there was something that would assist in allowing me to check the blind spot without having to take my eyes completely of what is happening in front of me.
Is there a Discovery related solution or is the cheap and cheerful stick on mirror the only answer?
ThanksCalum

As a response driver, I agree with all of the above, constant use of all mirrors, correctly set mirrors and a shoulder check.
I drive a commercial and have a circular, convex blind spot mirror placed at the top inside corner of each wing mirror for additional peace of mind.

Never had this problem with a D3, it has got to be one of the best vehicles on the road for visibility, now the Freelander is a different story particularly the "A" pillars. It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

Have the window slightly open and . . .A vaccine does not stop you catching a virus, or passing it on, or getting ill from it, really ill. It does reduce the likelyhood of you dying when really, really ill. Stay Alive - KEEP AWAY FROM PEOPLE.

Similar (and condensing) to what Bruce (BLF) is saying, if you adjust your mirrors properly, you won't have a blind spot.I was a normal heterosexual chap, but in these new woke awakenings I now identify as a Wardrobe.
