Which is why you graph it against RPM and throttle pedal, rather than looking for set values.

Injectors, LP, returns and fuel leaks are all part of the equation too.

Pressure not checked yet, already more errors came up:
DPF full: P244B Diesel particulate filter differential pressure too high (Bank 1)

Stopped, put transmission in P and floored the accelerator, fault gone for now.

Little later P0087: P0087 Fuel rail/system pressure - too low
Comes back to the HPFP I suppose....

Never spend money on the HPFP until the LP fuel pressure is checked with a proper gauge.

I've seen a lot of LP issues, but yet to see a genuine HP issue outside of misfuel events.

Mine was a genuine HP fault Robbie - took 9months to finally get it sorted as it only went into limp mode under certain conditions - temperature, throttle position - initially, but as it developed I could get it to limp on demand (But 90% of the time at 2000rpm)

I'd contacted LR technical via a colleague at work who diagnosed the HP pump being at fault some 6months prior to the dealer finally exhausting all other options and replacing the HP pump - which did sort my ESF's. Thumbs Up

I'd also been talking to Pete Bell about it and the reasons behind the 2000rpm point because mine has been remapped by Pete.

Of course, that doesn't preclude that it was miss-fuelled before I had it! (The previous owner was a member on here, but seemingly a none poster as the reg number (Personal) wasn't known.)

I thought it was random, but maybe some typical conditions. Today we went to the Ethias theater with 3 kids in the car. On 30km I had to stop 6 times for a restart! "Dad, are we going to be late?" ....
Same road back home, no problems .... I didn't do anything to the car in between, I was just outside on the theater parking place. Checked for errors tonight: only P0087, a lost communication and torque information.

4000km running with 2SO. Was looking good, but yesterday evening again engine system fault: P0087 00 (68 ) Fuel rail/system pressure too low.
Robbie I was reading 'Robbie's Guide To The Low Pressure Fuel System' (http://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic130062.html). Can I conclude I need a new LPFP out of my measurements?

First measured the input current by measuring the voltage over the fuse:
With engine running 9.5mV, engine off ignition on 8.6mV. Using the ohms law and assuming the resistance of the 25A fuse is 2.36mOhm these voltages result in 4.0A (engine running) and 3.64A (ignition on)

Tried to measure the pressure at the schrader valve, but that wasn't a success:
Looked for the best pressure gauge at home, this is the best I could find.

Not perfect to measure these low presures, but I tried. You can see the lowest pressure it can measure is 0.3bar and probably not accurate. Anyway I gave it a try and the result was .... nothing.... the needle didn't move at all...

To be more sure about the currents I did a current measurement with the DMM. Fuse out and DMM on the fuse connections:
Fuel pump current only ignition on: 3.82A
Fuel pump current engine running: 4.33A

Little higher then previous post, but the voltage measurements over the fuse are a good indication.

I'd expect the needle to move. Can you get a cheap low pressure gauge to check properly?

Went to different shops but didn't find a propre gauge. This morning my dad was here and I asked him. Turned out he has the perfect tool I needed, out of his carburator times.

So did some pressure measurements they are not looking good:
    Cold engine running: 0.2bar
after 2 mile trip and engine running idle: 0.25bar

When the engine = off the pressure goes up a little to 0.3bar
When revving the pressure drops to 0.1bar, I filmed it:
    https://youtu.be/UrBs7LTciTc

On heavy acceleration the pressure goes even negative: -0.1bar !!

I think we can conclude the LPFP is not able to pump enough fuel for the HPFP, am I right?

Great video - you should add it to my guide thread.

Yep, your LPFP is toast.

With pleasure.
Is there a way to upload it to the site, didn't find it? Or do you want me to put the youtube link in the tread?

For anyone else who needs the info as i email to Bart this morning info taken from Topix.

The LP system features the following components:

In-tank fuel pump
Fuel pressure regulator (integral to the fuel delivery module)
Fuel filter
Return pipes and fuel cooler
Injector return pipes
Fuel coolers (engine and vehicle)
The LP system pressure is regulated to 0.5 bar.
