When I collected my D4 (MY16 Graphite) from the dealer (not a great one) I specifically asked if the temp sensor issue had been fixed and the towing electrics correctly installed and was assured they had....of course neither was addressed correctly. A visit to Beadles (not the supplying dealer) addressed both issues and the sensors turn off with two different tow bar attachments (bike rack and back box rack). I strongly suspect that the dealer is talking rubbish and they are not alone. The supplying dealer said that sometimes the software does not take! Hard to believe that's true as I think it's a tick box in the configuration. I'm pretty sure they were in a hurry as they failed to get the car ready before I arrived and simply didn't check so probably the same in your case.
