There's a button on one side and a notch on the other. To completely remove it, you need to put something into the notch. The key fits perfectly, as I remember.

Bobbycrispbox,
Is that for the version with the handles on both sides of the headrest?
I guess not.
I as well tried to remove the headrest. Withouth success (but without chainsaw) Some people get by
With a little understanding
Some people get by
With a whole lot more
I dont know
Why you gotta be so undemanding

Original post pertained to the centre headrest on row 2.
Chainsaw is required to remove front headrests I believe

Front headrests can be removed with the same method (not chainsaw!) as row 2 once the handle bolts are removed

Buried somewhere in all these threads is indeed a procedure for removing the front headrests (with the side grab handles). I used it about 15 months ago to remove the rests, shave most of the foam off, and re-install. Given the distances we drive here, I would rather be able to look straight forward and not have my head thrust down, albeit with no doubt a slight loss of whiplash protection. Hi DingMark,
It sounds like you drive with your seatback in a very upright position. Perhaps if you'd taught youself to accept a slightly more "laidback" position all would be fine.
Best Wishes,
Peter

Aren't we all "laid back" here in Oz? In my case, I'm long-waisted and the back of my large (okay, swollen) head just hits the forward most part of the headrest, causing the bifocals to go all skew-wiff. Easier to get a shaved headrest than a new more compact head.
