Hi all
Just got a blade cut spare key and thought I’d test it with passenger lock.
Lock spins and doesn’t do anything
Tried with original key, same again
So I’ve got a blade and fob spare now but can’t access car if central locking or fob becomes faulty!! Grrrr
Does anyone have any tekkers on this please? Maybe a cheap backup lock replacement etc?
TIA

Why not remove and give it a Champagne (WD40) birthday?

Only one way to find out! Are you turning it clockwise?- the mechanism is very simple for the manual unlock.
p.s. insert the key in the removable cap before replacing to prevent snapping the retaining lugs off. It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

If the barrel only moves with key in, it sounds like rod not connected? If they have a rod.
Edit. See page 8 of link. They have a cable. Could be disconnected or broken.
Not a fun job. Glass needs disconnecting from mech.
Some tips here

Neither of the links relate to the issue the OP has got, it is the manual unlock system he has a problem with not the door actuators.
ISTR I accessed the the front passenger lock from the door edge enough to lubricate and do an examination and found it appeared to be very basic and flimsy set up and needed excessive force to unlock with the key. It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

The link provides the OP with instructions on how to remove the glass. Of which I expect he will need to inspect the rear of the lock.
And also instructions on how to remove latch ASY should that be needed

Sounds like another mad blag to me haha. Cars!!!
Clockwise just kept turning
Anti-clockwise was no response. Did feel stiff on the key too was near bending or snapping
Is there a way I could make a secret boot latch wire externally or something haha? At least until the dirt lock becomes a problem due to fob / receiver fails.
I’ve only got a generic eBay key. And there was glass in the car when I got it. So I’m presuming it’s been an issue in the past! If only the owners had logged maintenance history!

If you have resistance it’s normal, they are all near snapping before before they turn, regular lubrication is the way to go, just keep trying backward and forwards with plenty of penetrating oil and patience. ISTR I removed some screws on the edge of the door and squirted oil in. It has possibly never been used from new!
If the key will not turn nothing is broken(yet) It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

Updating it seems the passenger lock is dead. It spins right continuously. Left it spins continuously sometimes and others it won’t budge. No matter how hard I twist. And I’ve give it a good deep spray several times.
What could be the solution please if the central locking goes? Separate lock on passenger door with a key maybe and hide the key somewhere externally?

I’ve changed the actuator in about 2 hours, if the lock (actuator) packs up and the door cannot be opened you will have a nightmare of a job and will probably need a new door card, check it out asap is my advise.
Have a read here:

It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

I think you need to remove the door card and electric window mech, look inside to ensure the cable to the lock is connected.
See if it turns inside when the key is inserted.
If it doesn't turn inside the door, the only real work around solution is to replace the lock. Can't think of any easier or cheaper solutions.
If it is turning inside you need to investigate more, and see why its not opening.

Thanks guys
Don’t see the point in replacing the CL actuator of it’s not broken. Also don’t really want to take the door apart / stress. Think maybe the best option to just buy a lock barrel and key and just replace it?
Or is the barrel part of a larger mechanism in the door?
Thanks again

no you don't need to change the lock mechnisium C/L
however you do need to take the door apart (window motor out)
to:-
1. To check if there is a cheap fix ( something disconnected)
2. to see what part is actually faulty.
3. to remove the lock / handle if that is indeed faulty
