At the weekends the Peak District tends to get very busy but in the week becomes deserted during this time of the year. Some excellent low level walks and good pubs. Castleton tends to be a honey pot during busy times but a decent place to visit during the week with some decent pubs. The beer tends to get dearer as you move from east to west.

Depends what you want to do...? Some nice green lanes around Matlock and Bakewell...you've got Chatsworth close by (they do it up for Chrimbo) and there's a cracking Indian in Matlock (called the Maazi - can't miss it, got a Tuktuk on the roof!) If you want a more traditional pub, the Nettle in Ashover is brilliant...trad old pub with open fires and amazing food...

Try Fischers Hotel in Baslow...I've not stayed but often eat there as a treat...beautiful setting and within easy touring distance of all the local highlights; Chatsworth, Bakewell, Castleton, Hathersage etc...with lots of nice walks and nice roads to potter round on, park up, take in the view...and then move on... Where ever you end up, have a good time... It's well worth the trip!

Forgot to say... I've seen snow in June in Buxton...it's always bl**dy freezing! Highest market town in England apparently...

You can't go to The Peak District without visiting Bakewell, best on market day (Mon). There are some very good B&Bs and hotels there. A midweek visit to Lady Dower Dam is breathtaking, the road that takes you round the dam is closed at week ends Thumbs Up A visit to Chesterfields crooked spire should be on the agenda.
There is a private off road course at Ashfield, I went round it courtesy of Gordon Lamberts LR when the Freelander 2 was launched, I was very impressed with its off road capability.

Being natives of the area (Me Chesterfield, and "the boss" Hope Valley (not got three ears and two heads each though!)) of course we're biased. If you want to stay in Hope Valley, the "Old Hall" at Hope village is worth a look for B&B, and they do good meals (not especially cheap, but good). Should you wish to venture to Chesterfield and fancy a trip up the Crooked Spire, it can be arranged!! Wink

It goes without saying that the spire visit would be F.O.C. Whistle
