I intend to try the Penrite SIN Diesel 5W40 on my next oil change (next week) but I do notice that the spec sheet says not to use on vehicles with Diesel Particulate Filters, my D3 is a 2007 model built March 2007, I don't think that the DPF was fitted until the 2008 model but is there a record anywhere of the VIN number after which the filter was fitted 2007 Zermatt Silver Td6 SE, ARB Front Bar & Safari Snorkel, Mitchell Bros Hitch, FrontRunner Roof Rack, Traxide Dual Battery Kit

What is the reason for you changing to a lower-spec oil that will have a higher viscosity under almost all conditions? The Bearded Dragon

Is it a lower spec oil? Compared to what? also there have been suggestions on this forum that a 5W40 is more suited to Australian conditions especially in WA Summers and especially when towing a lot 2007 Zermatt Silver Td6 SE, ARB Front Bar & Safari Snorkel, Mitchell Bros Hitch, FrontRunner Roof Rack, Traxide Dual Battery Kit

5W-40 is automatically a lower spec oil compared to the spec 5W-30.
I'd be interested to hear the qualifications of those recommending 5W-40.
Best Wishes,

As far as I'm aware the 5W-40 or 0W-30 has nothing to do with a higher or lower specification oil, its just the viscocity rating, the specifications are encapsulated in the performance requirements ie ACEA B3 B4 and you really have to compare manufacturers data sheets (which all vary in content).
The Penrite Oil is specifically for Diesels, is fully synthetic and meets ACEA E7/E4/B4 and is also supplied in a 6 ltr container which suits the 5.5 ltr required for the Disco3.
For what its worth when I enquired what oil my dealer uses on servicing I was told Castrol Magnatec5W-40 2007 Zermatt Silver Td6 SE, ARB Front Bar & Safari Snorkel, Mitchell Bros Hitch, FrontRunner Roof Rack, Traxide Dual Battery Kit
