A winter tyre is still better in ice + snow than a good summer tyre will ever be...
Even in heavy frost + snow, I can still give it full throttle without troubling the TC on a good set of winters My D3 Build Thread

Came over the high ground from Settle to Malham today.
Surprised how much grip my ATRs had. A little clenched coming down a 17% descent. Held in 1st with a light brake just to keep speed to walking pace. ABS kicking in but controlled. ........ Must remember to breathe.

Gratuitious pic of ATRs & snow.

No tyre is ideal for all conditions, I preferred ATRs over winters as I've seen how dire normal winters are off-road. Best mix at the mo would be AT3s but once the present Wranglers fun down I'll prob be getting ATRs on the not so old girl.

Crap, looked at the programmes and couldn’t find anything for ski slope with right corner over bridge. Will check the dash for the HDC!

And whatever you do don't do the old Deafner routine of all feet off the pedals, moderate it gently with the brake if it's too steep and she starts running away.

If you touch the brake then HDC will disengage and you're on your own so feet off is the correct technique with HDC. If it's steep, take low range 1st gear and crawl down using HDC as a back up. The systems work well if you let them.Visiting from rrsport.co.uk

Not on my D3 it didn't disengage. Feathering the brakes keeps the speed under control if it's too steep. I've seen D3s toboggan down really steep slopes with a white knuckle ride and terrified driver in 1st low pressing the minus button on the CC side of the wheel for all they are worth. HDC sometimes needs a little help.

As long as you’ve got the cruise control buttons on the steering wheel you can set hdc to a lower speed. The default is a bit quick for going down a steep icy hill!

1st low might be the cause if there’s more engine braking than grip. And yes it’s better to set the speed lower while you’re at the top than halfway down!
