Polish Nightmare!

Hey everyone,

I thought this afternoon..lets wash & dry the disco, get a chance to give it a good lookover.................then polish the bonnet and front part.

I used the Mer Pro Polish.

Unfortynately I got carried away and put on to much.............it also started to get colder and a little damp Shocked

So I could not get the polich to dry or shin...........Bonnet looking really "waxy" Sad

Tried washing it off with car shampoo & warm water.............no good still there Sad

In desperation I phoned a friend that has a wedding car hire business with limos etc.

He suggested squirt of washing up and hot/warm water.............then rinse with lots of cold water & leave it.

Repolish on a warm day Smile

That seemed to do the trick Smile

Will check it out in the morning.

Is there an easier polish/wax to put on than "Mer"

I hope I did not damage the paintwork Confused

I also noted some stone chips on the front part of the bonner. Are the "chips away" travelling businesses worth using?

Cheers

Allan Smile

I'd love to say that I use AutoGlym Super Resin on the D3......... but I've only washed it once in 10k miles Embarassed

Besides....... It looks so much better when it's dirty Razz

IF,.... I was going to polish it, that's what I'd be using Wink

Hi Allan,
Chips away are ok....but if you are anywhere near Dundee,Auto Ecosse in Broughty Ferry do Smart repairs and are excellent!!
They removed a ding in my d3 which i got when the car was 2 hours old.
They do the whole, chips, dings, scratches and alloys thing, and only charged me 25 quid to sort

Finally sombody that washes his car as few as myself... I was frustrated when i read the replies in the topic I launched:
http://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic6142.html?highlight=wash

So tell me, JMC, do you have grass growing on your car as well?
And yes, the shiny off roaders you mostly meet in capital cities: it's not the way it is ment to be!

Hi Allan

I use meguiars products all the time , find them the best and i know my wax as I go through bottles of the stuff.

What you want is a wax called NTX Tech Wax, easy to work with . I would give my disco a coat of this every month .

Meguiars also do a product called NTX Speed detailer , (i love this stuff) Its a touch up spray wax that you use between waxing ,perhaps after a car wash

Also if you want to touch up the black plastic bumper ends and trim I would recommend Meguiars Gold Class trim detailer

everything can be got in your local halfrauds or http://www.meguiars.co.uk/

Like JMC I use Autoglym Super Resin Polish, after its polished with this I put Autoglym Gloss Protection on too. Makes the car look really good - although don’t do it on a very bright day - polishing silver cars on a bright day nearly blinds you! Always found Autoglym products easy to use.

You wont of done any damage to your paintwork but it might just look a bit patchy when its dry - nothing a polish wont put right. I have had the same happen to me on a D2, I just left it and repolished once it stopped raining. Wouldn’t recommend using washing up liquid too often though - I've heard its not too good for the paintwork.

Hey everyone,

Thanks for the feedback and advice................I have been depressed all afternoon because of this Sad

Anyway, I am starting to feel better now Smile

Its just so annoying when you intend to do a good thing and then end up thinking you may have damaged your paintwork.

Cheers

Had my D3 treated with Permagard http://www.permagard.info/.
All I have to do is wash it with a ph neutral car shampoo (Meguairs).
Only downside was you had to get it done in either Cardiff or London, might have more dealers now though.
Excellent product.
