Poll - 3.0 vs 2.7 TDV6

Hi, I would like to ask this stupid question.

Since the 3.0 TDV6 looks so good, why is the 2.7 TDV6 still available? Is it because of realibiity and ease of maintenance?

I would like to have a poll for the new D4 owners, which engine you chose?

It's to keep the price of the 3.0 up. Remove the 2.7 and it then just becomes the std 3.0 rather than the 'upgrade' Thumbs Up

Which one you choose depends on so many more factors than performance, quality and status.

Anyway where's the 'keep your 2.7 D3 option I don't like the D4!'

The 3.0 twin turbo version of the SAME engine is more powerful, has bags more torque and is smoother.

I have yet to be convinced of the better MPG claims but maybe that is because I have been enjoying the other benefits mentioned above a little too much! Very Happy

Also the gearbox had been re-programmed and is more responsive and much better matched to the engine.

I'm pretty sure that I would not have bought the D4 if it was only available with the same 2.7 engine.

I think the reason that the 2.7 is still available is so that LR can still offer a lower cost version of the D4 and also the 2.7 is available with manual gearbox where the 3.0 isn't.

SWMBO and I were walking on the pavement and came up next to a D4 with a 3.0 engine idling at a light. As it pulled off, I remarked: "did you hear that?"

She said "no"

We couldn't believe how quiet it was. Made our D3 sound like a clapped out school bus in comparison.

The bigger engine was the deciding factor for me in buying the D4. Loved the D3 but I always felt it needed much more power Wink The 3.0 is great off the mark and I feel confident overtaking on back roads. Don't forget the bigger (albeit too big for 17/18" wheels) brakes on the 3.0 too Very Happy

The 3.0 engine and upgraded interior were the deciding factors for me in buying a Discovery. Without them I wouldn't have bought one at all.

I would go for the 2.7, not because of the engine but because of smaller wheel options and spare battery options.
3.0 is still having issues; these should improve in later buids.

Two dealers that I have spoken to recently, both said that they thought that LR would stop making the 2.7 model due to lack of demand.Hope theyre wrong,I need a manual.
Reckon mine will have done 350k before the new defender arrives Laughing

What problems are they having with the 3.0 engine?

Turbo and elecronis/software issues are main ones. Nothing major and I am sure they'll get sorted.
First build always has issues, D3 did.

Fingers crossed.... Neutral

I pick my D4 up on Monday afternoon. It would be nice to have a problem free car but reading the various forum that might be a little unrealistic.

My Ford Territory did have some issues early on and couple problems later but it mostly been a good car.
