I only dream of 29 mpg !!! (average speed of 14mph over last 3 fill-ups probably explains that)
in theory ... colder input air would give better mpg but it's totally wiped out by warm-up time, winter fuel, and extra loads from heated rear window/seats, lights etc.
i’m getting around 26 - 28mpg on a run, brimming the tank , alas the display tried to make me feel better by lying as always
indeed , first thing on a winter morning , it displays around 15mpg , don’t worry about it too much now , just fill up as required
had mine just over a year and regardless of all the work i’ve done i still adore it and wouldn’t change it for the world

An article I have been reading mentions putting 2 stroke oil in with the diesel tank. Has anyone with a D4 SDV6 tried this, I have read all 50 pages of whys and why not, seems to be mostly D3’s though.
Am using Redex every other tank, still not sure if it’s actually doing anything performance wise or even cleaning anything.

My opinion nothing more, but what ever positives people claim, there must be a downside, because if there was a way of making fuel better without compromising something dont you think every car expert worth their salt would recommend it.
Personally I think the only way to good fuel economy without comprising something is a well maintained engine and drive it like Miss Daisy, happy to ensure the former and life is too short for the latter If i want good fuel economy I'll use the wife's Juke, supermini the D3/4 aint whatever fuel.==================================

Hi,
Firstly many thanks for all your thoughts.
I have tried the thermal imaging camera and shows brake discs at around 15deg all around , give or take, after a medium run. I am going to try the Shell V power fuel next to see if things improve, may still continue to throw a bit of Redex in. I am aware of the premium fuel cost as well as the cost of the Redex, it could work out false economy, perhaps robbing Peter to pay Paul, but i’ll see.
A great point which has been said, which I totally agree with is, it’s not a Mini so will not get that kind of fuel return and I really enjoy the drive of a Discovery I don’t think there is anything better to suit our needs. We use it for our dog, I use it for work, it fits into our boat life, we use it socially, it really is a ten out of ten all rounder.
This was/is just a test for me to see if I can improve things, either way I will update.
Again still open to people’s thoughts.
Mark

I record my fuel use on the Road Trip fuel app. Since mid December the mpg I’m getting is 1-2mpg less.
This is almost certainly due to the additives in diesel fuel at this time year, which prevent waxing.2006 D3 HSE (Original & still the best)-GONE

bammmy, what are you trying to achieve/get back to and under what conditions (cold/short urban, twisty A roads, slow motorway, fast motorway, etc). Many, many peeps start driving these cars thinking they will get much better mpg than they actually get, and in the end they get the same as the rest of us. Sometimes peeps see a ridiculously high number on the trip comp, way higher than reality, and think they should be getting that all the time. Well it doesn't work like that. Expect, under ideal conditions & economical driving (60mph cruising on motorways) to get slightly under or slightly over 30mpg. My D4 has done that 95% of the last 16,500 miles and it's real average is 31.0 mpg.
Del, I've watched a glacier overtake you, stop of to let the mammoths have a coffee and still arrive at our destination before you. Your MPG figures are not representative!

Any faster and both me and the mammoths would get a nose bleed. I'm not in a hurry.

but have to say neither have made any difference that I can see.
Over the years I have tried just about every product in my various car fuel tanks (out of curio) after hearing people rave about how much better it made their car etc and I have to say I never noticed one jot of difference to the sound/starting or mpg!

I'm with you there, nothing i've tried makes any difference, not even premium fuels.
Shell diesel was the best in my audi, but it's £1.269 for shell or £1.149 for sainsburys diesel per litter, so no competition.Jaguar I-Pace HSE imminent.
