Adding 2 stroke oil to SDV6
Hi,
I have a 2013 3L sdv6 Discovery, having done 34k.
Over the last couple of months have noticed a drop in fuel economy.
As I have a trip to Scotland arranged for early February, doing around 1000 miles, thought I would have a look at rectifying this.
Options I have been told are-
That’s normal because of the fuel burning heater.
Have a course of Revive turbo cleaner.
Clean the two air sensors next to the air filter.
Change fuel to premium.
Change air filter.
Or lastly add 500ml of semi synthetic 2 stroke oil into the fuel tank.
As you can see so much advice given.
Any thoughts from the Landrover world appreciated.
Cheers.

Check each wheel hub after a long run and make sure one isn't hotter than the others. A sticking calliper will degrade your MPG quite a bit (even if only a slight stickiness)!

What mpg are you currently getting? type of journey, long, short, motorway back road etc.?
My consumption over the last 7,691 miles is 317.27 litres of Shell diesel = 24.2 MPG
That's driven hard in all conditions, 5% off-road, using lots of anticipation, & little use of the brakes.

If it’s only over the last couple of months as you say it could just be down to the cold weather....

As I replied originally fuel formula is changed for winter, from mid Nov to Mid March it is modified to stop waxing down to - 15, this results in less fuel economy to a varying degree depending on engine and fuel map.
What's you before and after figure that gives you concern?==================================

Hi all, thanks for comments so far.
I’m back in work tomorrow and have access to thermal image camera so will check then.
I do not do any towing or have a roof box.
Most of my journeys are motorway and A road with just a little bit of town driving.
My consumption on the lie - o meter on a good run used to read around 33/34 it’s droppedto around 29 ish a drop of 10% ish.
As said earlier , I’m going to Scotland early February so was wondering if any of the solutions mentioned might help.
Cheers for thoughts so far.

Anything up to 20% can be classed as normal winter drop depending on your vehicle and type of journey.
If it's dropped but now consistent then don't don't think you have anything to worry about and not much you can do but the usual tyres pressures, avoid short journeys etc==================================

I only dream of 29 mpg !!! (average speed of 14mph over last 3 fill-ups probably explains that)
in theory ... colder input air would give better mpg but it's totally wiped out by warm-up time, winter fuel, and extra loads from heated rear window/seats, lights etc.

This shows how my mpg on the D3 varied over 11 and a bit years. Highs in the summer, lows in the winters.
