positive video review of the D5

A very positive review of the D5.

This guy does like his landrovers. And owns a RR FF himself

he has done quite a few reviews like this on the whole LR range, all seem to be honest, unbiased and really good IMO.

What he says about the D5 makes perfect sense to me, right down to the longevity of the 2.0D 240 engine in it.

I’ve always enjoyed his reviews.

I also wasn’t aware that the 5 can be had with coil springs.

No discussion about the uncomfortable second row seats, or the squeeze to get in to the third row seats. Both minus points raised by SWMBO when I had a play with one.

Interesting that he says it's the best Discovery made - many Discovery 3 or 4 owners didn't buy one simply because they don't consider it as good as the D3 or D4.

If one needs 7 seats, then yes it is probably a good second hand buy at 50k. But if one doesn't need the third row, that 50k would look a lot more appealing shaped as a FFRR with a decent engine under the bonnet.

Yes it was quite a surprise to what D4 owners think.

He said you could get adults in the 3rd row

You can, the 3rd row seats are much better than D3 or D4, it’s just a bit of a squeeze to get it, and I have seen comments about the 2nd row seats being uncomfortable, but my kids (adults) who did miles in the back of my D3 and D4’s say the D5 is much better, as you can change both the leg length and recline them.

As he comments, the D5 is still a marmite car, with those who don’t think it’s a Discovery at all, and those of us who have them. After 2 and 1/2 years with my 2ltr HSE I wouldn’t want to go back to a D4 👍

I was camping last weekend. Whilst I was in my Series Land Rover, one of the chaps had a fully loaded D5.
He was using the plywood ramp thing as a camping table, and it struck me as to how it was actually a much more practical vehicle than the new Defender 110 I just bought!
Whilst it lacks the X factor of style, it’s a damn good car.

Oh I forgot, there was one comical feature. He accidentally triggered the gesture close on the tailgate and spilt his dinner into the boot.

I guess they have made the disco a more upmarket car.
And intend the defender to be used for more robust usage, now its launched

@gareth, that’s possibly the only time the gesture tailgate has worked. Mine doesn’t seem to want to operate when I want it to, and operates when I don’t 😳👍

The latest version looks quite stunning tbh ...I saw around a dozen D5 Wimbledon tennis chauffeurists driving them yesterday and I was blown away by the subtle but effective redressing.
