POwer loss!
Here we go.......
Missus took the D3 to our local town this morning and retruned with out issue apart from hitting a small flood on the way home. Parked the car up until 3pm when she went to go to do the school run. Started the engine, no problem apart form it stuttered ( in her words) battery light flickered and the engine cut out. it started straight back up and idled ok but has lost its inital get up and go......... she swung by our workshop so we could drive it and I have found that it idles as asweet as a nut, but driving off in 1 st is painful! The power then kicks in around 2k and it pulls like normal, change up gear and as long as you keep power on it keeps pulling, if you power back slightly it loses power and pedal does not really respond.
Do you think the flood could be the cause? Dirty plug/ connector? Some one mentioned it could be coincidence and the Air mass sensor is dirty?

Could be split intercooler hose or fooked turbo and many things in-between. Black smoke when it gets up to 2k revs?

Sounds exactly like EGR valve symptoms to me. Could be the flood business is one of those coincidental things we tend to connect up when it may have nothing to do with it.

Thanks for the replys lads.
It's a 2005 model, basic spec with manual box, covered 75K and had main dealer servicing all its life not that it counts for much some times!
Its been fault less up until today with the exception of the EPB sticking temporarily over xmas, which since the cold weather has warmed up has dissapeared.
I am hoping the surface water which went over the windscreen apparently was just coincidental as there was no power loss imediately after or during the remainder of the drive home. The power loss occurred some 5 hrs later.
There are no nasty noises or mechanical knocks so pretty sure no water has gone through the air intake.
I am rather hoping its suffering from "landrover syndrome" and that a god nights rest will see it cured in the morning ...........or is that just wishful thinking.
There are no warning lights showing, just seems very sluggish on power take up.

bornpompey: Same age and spec as mine, and sounds like same symptoms. Managed to get my EGR valves changed under warranty, but have EGR blanking kit at the ready for when it goes out of warranty next month.

As a temp measure & to help diagnose if it is the valves or not, you could blank them off with a 1p piece.
This is what the LR Assist engineers do.
All you do is disconnect the EGR pipe at the manifold end & put a 1p piece in the end and connect back up. It will be tight when you go to put the clip back on, but it will go with a bit a encouragement.
If it is an EGR issue then the d3 will have the power back. This is what the LR eng did to mine & it worked a treat, the dealer confirmed valve stuck open 18%.d4 HSE in Corris Grey with Black options pack

Now I have read the topic and got by bonce around the EGR I think this issue has been buildig for a while.......thinking back it has been a bit sluggish on cold take off since the snow came.........once warmed up I never noticed it.
Will do some tests tomorrow to see, but have already found that Bells seem to be the weapon of choice so phone will be at the ready 8)

drove back from Glasgow to Colchester with an enclosed trailer 2 years ago with a knackered L/H egr valve, exactly the same issue and symptoms, managed to wind him to to 63mph and all was fine.
I assume you're saying this is happening ALL the time and not just on those few occassions - reason for asking is if not, then could be the XYZ switch on the gearbox, same symptoms but very hit and miss although having gone thru the flood, would make sense
If nothing comes up on the IDS/FAULTMATE at stealers regards egr, recon that's yer next pointer which would cost yer less than £50 to repair, part if less than £10

might want to use a 2 pence piece

like everyone 99.9% sure egr, however you know how these like to keep us owners on our toes
mind you 2005 and first time he's had an egr failure, yer doing well matey
"water over the windscreen"....... I thought you said it was a "small flood" which either means it was a small flood but deep OR she ran at it at some speed, powering out as she came, worth asking the question tackfully of SWMBO coz hitting at high speed might lead to other diagnosis

well its got to be EGR's...that or EPB...because its always one or the other. And the there was no mention of a scream at the same time as the power loss The next American ex-pat that calls it a "truck" is going to find out what 2.7 tons feels like on their foot...
