Pre-Purchase inspection wanted |
|
Hello All,
First post, hope I'm in the right place. We're looking to buy a D3 and I'd like it to be inspected by someone in the know before cash changes hands. Any one offer advice as where is best to go?
Cheers

Welcome to the site.
Depends on where the car is. Are you looking for assistance from a site member or a commercial set-up like AA or RAC?

Both the AA and RAC do inspections on vehicles for buyers. Not sure on how much though.
Any seller should welcome AA or RAC inspections if not i would walk away and find another seller.
All LR dealership vehicles should have had LR inspection and warrenty so should be no problems buying from a LR dealer

Thanks for the replies, I'm happy to pay, I understand the AA etc do them, but wondered if there were independent LR specialists, one of the D3's is in Herts the other Essex.
Edited to add, none of the dealers are official Land Rover.

I would ask if 10forcash here would do this kind of service.
Quote:For all enquiries, please either email us at: iain@offroad-essentials.com
or call us on 07806 570891
Finally, we can also be contacted by SIP phone at *673810274
or Satphone 00816 3162 2545
2nd to none technically on here, independent so no axe to grind or company line to tow.
Many here will attest to this

I am a engineer for a agricultural dealer. we do get requsted to go out with customers if they buy machines privately. They get charged for this but not full rate. It might be worth contacting a main LR dealer near the D3 you want inspected to see if you could have someone from the workshop come with you and check it out.
Might not be the cheapest option but worth asking the qustion

If your looking for a proper D3 report I second Iain. If it's not right he'll find it and will be able to fix it as well

approx £180 for LR stealer to do "X" check, did it with mine, only problem is getting the current owner to release the vehicle in your care as the report would be for the one bringing it in !

I had the RAC carry out a full inspection of my G4 when I bought it.
Pricing goes on engine size and at 4.4l the V8 is in the top tier of pricing. I paid something like £300 to £400 for the inspection - which seems like a waste of money but it was comprehensive.
I never saw the insopection take place but it was booked for 0900hrs one morning and when I hadn't heard anything from the RAC by mid-day I called them up only to be told that the engineer was on his lunch break and that he would finish off the inspection in the afternoon. I assumed he had been called away. Turned out he was there at 9am and that the inspection went on for nearly 6 hours.
Every last scratch in the leather upholstery was noted along with more serious problems with the suspension and drive train. There was a note made about how both sun-visors seemed a little lose and when the chap finished he spend nearly 45 minutes on the phone to me advising on what were high prioirty to fix and he could even talk knowledgeably about the cost of replacing parts.
He spotted nails in a tyre and the vendor told me he looked out of his window to see the ingineer shining a torch up the exhaust and then he whipped out what looked like and endoscope and shoved that up (the exhaust).
No idea what he thought he might find but I think it illustrates how thorough the job was. It also came with a £10,000 guarantee that I wouldn't find any further faults with the vehicle.
Would I recommend the RAC to you for this job? Absolutely. _____________
