Private Reg is on!
Got my into gear this morning and spent the mandatory half an hour down the DVLA office in Stretford to get my private reg onto the D3.
Interestingly there was some confusion around the new tax disc - since it was originally taxed at £170 (non CO2 rate) in February. It was only down to my knowledge of the Tax Bands and the impact of the registration date being February that meant I got the correct £195 tax disc.
As a foot note - as I was about to drive away from a side road round the back, a big black jaguar came out of the DVLA car park - with a private plate on it S4 YED - and guess what - all the letters were squashed together ILLEGALLY SPACED to read SAYED - talk about a cheeky sod!!!!Steve N | 21MY Defender | 08MY Discovery 3 (history) | 06MY Discovery 3 (ancient history)

Steve,
Stay legal if you want to keep it. The DVLA have always threatened to cancel misrepresented plates but have never bothered. So whats new? Police ANPR teams have put pressure on the DVLA because misrepresented plates avoid detection.
I was warned by a Senior Police Officer. When I pointed out that mine was legal he mentioned that letters of cancellation are being prepared. Perhaps S4YED will be searching the DVLA site to buy it back
HD3 gone for now

We were told that persistant offenders would end up with a 'Q' plate if theirs was snatched back by DVLA.
Wouldnt that be a nice treat for the real pi**takers!

Mine is absolutely street legal (though I do have a 'squashed together' set) - I had to get a new set because of the rectangular plate on the back.
In the same way the DVLA have a website for anonymously reporting untaxed motors, perhaps they should have one for motors with illegal plates - what do you think?
I suspect Non Stick Nick might NOT agree Steve N | 21MY Defender | 08MY Discovery 3 (history) | 06MY Discovery 3 (ancient history)
My Mini Cooper with the 90 BHP S kit has the plate P90 BHP, I put the plate on and got stopped for having a short plate (legal). When I quoted the law chapter and verse at the copper, he "let me off" and had to go to an emergency call !!!!"To finish first, one first has to finish ...."

In what way was it legal?
Even by trimming bits off the edges it can stil be illegal.
