Propshaft - How much is too much
The CV joint nearest the gearbox appears to be leaking grease - there is a 2-3mm bead of grease thrown out in a circle on the vehicle.
Is this too much and should the propshaft be replaced or is this within normal tolerance?

Just get a cv joint kit for about £35 from LR. Not sure how much LR would charge to fit it though....
Any grease leaked from a cv is too much tbh..Bodsys Brake Bible

Cheers - can you purchase just the joint or do you have to buy the whole propshaft?

For fixing your leaky inner CV joint, you only need to buy a replacement Rubber (as per the kit above). But this does require you to remove the halfshaft which is the bit that takes time.
Or you can get a single non LR rubber gaiter which has a split down the middle which you 'superglue' on (once you've cleaned all the old grease & gunk out & put new grease in).
Unless your actual CV joint has a grinding noise or other problem, then you don't need a new CV. The CV's themselves are about £80 or £65ish from The Large One. That's for the Outer one, not sure how much an inner one is. (CV does NOT include a rubber kit)
You don't need a new halfshaft at all, you just need to clean it out & replace the grease and rubber boot. Bodsys Brake Bible

Thanks for your swift response, however I think we are talking at cross purposes! The part that is leaking is on the propshaft under the middle of the vehicle that runs to the rear wheels not from the diffs out to the wheels

Ah! Yes, cross purposes......
But the result is that you need a new propshaft. £240+vat Plus new patchlock bolts (not expensive)
There's not much grease in the centre joint really as it doesn't do the same angles as the main CV joints, but it will start to vibrate badly after a while and if it locks up, then could damage either your transfer box or your rear diff (or both....) and you REALLY don't want it to do that!Bodsys Brake Bible

Not too bad really as I was reading up on it over the weekend as a potential job to do for mine. As long as you can get the car up on axle stands (or better still a 2 poster!) you should be fine.
mmmm.... Actually, even just a pair of wheel ramps (car reversed onto them) you should be fine Might help if you have another person to help offer the propshaft up so you can get a couple of bolts in each end and the centre bearing mount. Bodsys Brake Bible

Just got home from work and had a look under the car. There is actually quite a lot of dark grey/black grease on the car.
Lining it up with a screw driver it actually comes out where the prop and the transfer box plate meet - seems a bit strange but thats definitely where it lines up.
The green arrow indicates the line of grease and the red arrow where it is leaking from (the arrows are poor I know!!)[/img]

Ordered the part from TLO (thanks) and fitted at the weekend not too bad to do took some photos does anyone think we need a write up on it if so let me know.
The propshaft had been leaking grease from between the end plate and what ever seal there is - I am sure it should not fail like that - seems like poor manufacture to me
