Re: Putting up with LR cars... when is it time to move on!?

I love my D4. Before this; I’ve also had an Evoque and a Disco Sport. My other half has an Evoque and other family members have LR’s ranging from full fat RR to Freelanders etc.
The common thread, unfortunately, is that they’ve all had issues of one sort or another. The worst was my Evoque went into limp mode in the middle of France and LR assist could not locate a hire car for us. So they paid over 1000 euros to get us to our destination on time (can’t fault the service). But when the car was repatriated, it was fixed and then the fault reoccurred. Was nothing major; just a hose cracked and come loose... but I’d lost faith in the car and didn’t want to travel across Europe again in that (something I do a lot).
And now, my D4 seems to be suffering a few niggles. It’s a MY15 and was approved used. 40k miles on clock. I’ve just had the restricted performance flash up. I was actually due to be on my way to France now! But had to delay the trip. This could have happened deep into France - and I’d have had a messy situ on my hands.
I think I’m tired of it all and whilst I love LR products; I’d rather a car that simply gets me to where I’m going without a fuss.
One question I have... if I went for a D5, but the 2 litre engine over the 3... I wonder if it’s less prone to issues?
EV cars getting pretty cheap now like Hyundai Kona EV wit h64kWh battery gives OK range so I am pretty sure i will be dropping D4 soon to travel very cheap or mostly for free

To put my slant on things I'm only 4 month's into ownership of a 2012 D4 and from day one we had restricted performance flash up.
Eventually after 4 dealer trips it appears (touch wood) to be resolved. They have not provided paperwork but I was told it was the turbo solenoid - I'm assuming its something to do with the switch-over valve.
It took so long due to LR dealer being less than helpful, sending us on a 2 week holiday with the advice 'call the break-down'. I bought an IID tool and it paid for itself in that one trip.
Once we were back a negative review on trust pilot & a handful of evidence a manger got involved and it got sorted.
We are now building up confidence in the car again as we are in for the long-haul (10 years hopefully). To be fair as it was under warranty I had to leave it to the supplying dealer, if it had not been with them either i'd have started replacing parts myself or sent it to a decent independent.

I thought that was shock news in itself!!
Okay, I sat in a V90, an XC60 and an XC90. That's more than enough to own up to for one day 2011 - 2015: 3 x FL2

You can’t leave us hanging like that, it’s officially cruel and unusual.

Setting foot in a Volvo showroom is no shock for a LR customer these days
Been there done it and bought the D5
Even after all my issues, like a fool, I would still take another LR 23.5MY Defender 90 X-Dynamic SE D250 MHEV Pangea Green

To all 3!!
With the Full Fat experience having come very badly off the rails, I'm facing 3 options - waiting indefinitely for the car to be be fixed (31 days so far and no fix in sight), pressuring for a better offer to exchange for a new one or, ultimately, rejection How has it come to this?!
I really hope not but, if it turns out to be a rejection, then all trust will have been lost. It would, in those circumstances (very sadly) be my last JLR product. Love the car, but LR just aren't set up in such a way that they can provide much in the way of meaningful support for anything that's difficult. Like fixing an oil level sensor.
I came to LR from Volvo and it was time to see what's changed. It was only a very cursory glance, but the staff were especially attentive!
The V90 was very nice (I had 3 x Volvo V70 phase 2's on the trot), but I wouldn't want to go back to an ordinary car again.
The XC40 looks like a flourist's van. Yuck!
The XC60 is a very likable DS alternative. Lots of space, great view out. A step down from the D4, or Full Fat though.
The XC90 had a visibility and airiness that only a D4 driver could relate to (not as good as a D4, but good enough), had fabulous Volvo seats (well, they all did) and a massive boot. It's obviously less of an off road dedicated vehicle than either the D4 or FF, veering more towards MPV/people carrier, but in the absence of a successor to the D4, it makes a very strong case for itself. This is really painful to say, but I'd consider one.2011 - 2015: 3 x FL2

I’m considering a FF at the moment so this does make for some sad reading
There has been many times I say to myself, no more Landrover, mainly due to the really poor Dealer experience.
It’s astonishing they can keep a car for 31 days and can continue to scratch their heads over it

I think if I were to jump ship I’d take the XC60, but I would have a look at the XC90.
XC40 is a fun quirky looking car but in reality a bit too small for me.
It was my local dealer that put me off, at the time it was the XC90 I fancied, they had none in the showroom and only one used, with no offer to have a look around it, just seem like an effort form them. I asked for an extended test drive, I was allowed 2 hours supervised, not much good to have proper play around with it. I now notice they have lost the franchise and the John Clark Group who own the LR dealers up here now have it.
31 days is pretty good, over on the Velar forum one owner was without his car for 11 weeks just trying to install a software update.23.5MY Defender 90 X-Dynamic SE D250 MHEV Pangea Green

@GLYNNE:
If you're considering one, I'd still not put you off. They are fabulous cars and although it's becoming a fading memory (!), we still love ours.
But you know what the support can be like and even with the manufacturer's guarantee, it's a risk if even the manufacturer doesn't really know how it can be made to work!2011 - 2015: 3 x FL2

@ J77 - It's a shame you're not closer to Truro (couldn't be much further really), they couldn't do enough for me there today!
3 Months!!! me! I've only just begun! Little wonder LR don't seem to be taking it too seriously.2011 - 2015: 3 x FL2

There's a few dealers up here, there's Arnold Clark Stirling, Strathmore Perth and the new Volvo Cars Dundee. I've heard goods things about Strathmore, so I would probably try them.
At the moment though there is light at the end of the tunnel for me, though the phase 5 update has just been released, which is rumoured to bring Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. So, here we go again 23.5MY Defender 90 X-Dynamic SE D250 MHEV Pangea Green
