I think that the Traction Control and Stability Control are much more sensitive in GGS mode so the instructor was kind of correct.
If you get to try the same thing again you'll find that the D3 will correct itself in normal TR mode too - it's just that in GGS it's even more sensitive to lateral movements/swerves and will lock diffs/brake wheels and kill power even quicker.
But Simon's right - the effect you saw was the DSC working and not necessarily just the TR mode. The TR mode you were in just 'amplifies' the effect of the DSC when in slippy conditions.... 2006 Discovery 3 TDV6 SE Auto Buckingham Blue
