Querstion for Irish members - re crew cabs |
|
I want to take a 5 seater crew cab D4 and take it back to 7 seater, above board. Does anyone know if it can be done, what is involved, costs?
The first answer will most be 'why not just get a 7 seater', well I am doing a very favourable deal in late June on a MY15 decent spec Irish 5 seater and it is coming with the third row and fittings (in fact it these are part of a HSE Lux interior that was bought through this site and he had the first two rows, door cards and other bits fitted a few years ago).
Anyways, the vehicle has been privately taxed (€1200) since ownership as he has used it as family vehicle, I intend to keep that going.
So, to go from N1 back to M1 (what is involved?), install the seats (hopefully the easy part), no doubt get an engineer report to sign off (any of the ones who did the numerous crew cab sign offs should do it).

I was playing with the idea of doing this myself (I've the seats too and I'd removed the "One Way" bolts already only to replace them...Long story '').
I believe you've got the steps to 're-convert it' correct. It'd be the same crowd that "crew cab" just in reverse and they'll think you're nuts!! A few potential issues:-
There'll most likely be some residual VRT owing due to the new classification.
It will have paid 13.5% as a N1 vehicle (On my car this was €7250). Looking at the Revenue calculator, a 2015 XE TDV6 attracts a bill of €14200, leaving an almost €7k bill (before they include any extras!!)
It might need the 3rd row airbags to be fitted. They may be there and just deactivated but, I'm guessing they're missing.
You'll need to cut/replace the rear carpet if you're fitting the 30:20:30 seats as well as seats 6 & 7.
If you keep your 5 seats the middle row can't be reclined from the rear.

As above revenue will want the balancing VRT. An engineers report should do for your insurance company but check in advance. I had intended converting my 2 seat commercial to a five seat crew cab but they changed the rules, so double check with revenue that it’s ok to do.
