Radio/ CD Unit Failure - help.

Anyone had any issues with their CD/Radio unit? The unit is on but with no volume. When the key is out and the volume truned out a message comes on the LCD screen "lower power mode" with a battery sign next to it. Nothing comes on the message centre. The battery is fine and I have no idea what is wrong. Fuses are ok to.

Ideas?

The Low Power mode message is normal when the key is out, and the volume is turned above 20.

However if you have no sound at all, then something is wrong. You could try locking the car up, having a cup of coffee for 10 minutes, then try again. Failing that, dealer visit.

Disconnect and reconnect the battery and it should reboot the system. If that don't work then its dealer time.
In the Beginning there was nothing, which exploded.

I'm having problems with sound from the main speakers in the front doors and (lost any sound from the left and comes & goes from right). Dealer's tech guy suggests disconnecting the battery terminals & touching them together for 60sec to reboot. Any thoughts???

NO DON'T DO THAT. What you have been told is to disconnect both battery cables and join them together. Using a spanner or length of metal. Please be careful not to touch the battery terminals. I have used this method to get sound back, However disconnecting the +ive cable works most times as this also caused a reboot.

Will try just disconnecting the +ve terminal to see if that does it. The technician definately said touch the terminals together to reboot the system as oposed to connect them with a piece of metal and was specific re 60 seconds (disconnect after clock has vanished from hifi display). Confused Confused

PS might have beeen unclear, not shorting out the battery but touching the cables that connect to the battery from the car's electrical system.

I think what he must have meant was wait at least 60 seconds (or until the clock goes away) before disconnecting the +ve terminal.

I think we have to be careful about asking people who may not know the difference, to touch the terminals together. They might think you meant touch the BATTERY terminals together for 60 seconds with a spanner!!! I'll bet you cant hold the spanner for that long though 8)

I'll check with the dealer next time I'm passing, if taking off the +ve lead does not fix it I might get them to investigate further.

My unit does not eject the cd some times.
Dealer told he will try to fix it, otherwise will change the whole unit.
Also told me it is a known issue in LR with sircular from central office for the replacement.

Well went to the dealer who tried a download which failed and it's a new head unit for the car. It's starting to feel like one thing after another with this car since purchase in August 2005. Now the clutch has gone Sad

Marky, I think you shoudl get the newer 08 (or even MY09) by the time you come to order.

LandCruiser...! Please, I test drove one and the engine as really really rough in comparison. Back door is a pain and the bench seats in the back are also a real pain if you're trying to load stuff.

You did have one of the earlier models and it's well recognised that some had more than their fair share of problems, but the latest ones are Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

Oh and don't bother with the manual, go for the Auto. Don't need to worry about the clutch and you really won't regret it. Smooth and capable.

Back on topic (sort of) I was told by my dealer when I got the car that I didn't need all the security codes for everything as the system has them all emebedded, which sort of agrees with your comments regarding the battery. Need to know as I want to remove the battery to find out WTF they have done with the winch wiring on mine! Rolling Eyes If I disconnect the battery to remove it and have a look underneath, will it be OK to just reinstall it?

And BTW please confirm, I remove +ve first - I don't want to torch the car Embarassed

And then I need a remote, which luckily TFC has found the details for Thumbs Up

You're fine to disconnect the battery but ensure the car has 'gone to sleep' first, wait until the EPB light has gone out
Remove the -VE (negative) first
