Random misfire on a 2,7

Hi

I just reworked my engine with 6 new glow plugs and 3 injectors.
And all the standard things like belts and so on.

It was running fine for one week.

And now it starts misfiring one cylinder...... Occasionally
Not regular..... I would say always between 10 to 20 sek in between.

Fault codes says:injector offset 2 and 3 low
And 5 high.

The running values on obd2 are:
Inj1 738
Inj2 601
Inj3 611
Inj4 797
Inj5 1398
Inj6 908

BUT: I did a leakage measurement and there are all cylinders almost equal. Yawn

Any idea what it could be?

I do not have the possibility of a compression test.

Best regards
Roland

New:
Cyl4 /inj2
Cyl5 /inj4
Cyl6/inj6

Tomorrow I will exchange
Inj 2 and inj5

To see if it is the injector.

Best regards
Roland

number 2+3 are trying to offset the dodgy one
number 5 injector is way out and bet that is your issue,
exchanging them to see is a good idea to make sure. Thumbs Up

but they are very low as well.... was it new injectors you used ?

Hi

This morning I exchanged the injector5 from cylinder 3 with the injejtor from cylinder 5.

After that there was a new fault code:

P020E Cylinder 5 injection timing

with this error there are no balance values in the system readable

To go sure I exchanged now the cylinder 5 injector with the cylinder 4 injector.

The fault code moved with it to cylinder 4 injector timing.

Seems to be the injector. Rolling Eyes

crazy that it happend so fast after the change of the other injectors.

best regards
roland

Try replacing that injector the best of the old injectors you removed earlier! It may come back within tolerance (balance) now that there are three new ones in there.

Might also save you a few pennies at least until the other side of Xmas. Thumbs Up

Hello

One Year later! and still, ...or again, ..... some problems.

I already excanged all 6 injectors.
Injector balance looks good.

but its running very rough when i do a coldstart below 10°C.

here a short video. you can hear it.

injector balance at this moment:

in real life it sounds like it is running on 3or 4 cylinder.

As soon as it gets warm its idling fine

I have no idea what the reason for this could be. !?!?!?

Any Ideas?
Any suggestion what i could check?

Best regards
Roland

Oil temp sensor, screws into left sde of the sump, no need to drain oil to change so long as you swap quickly.
Iirc the oil temp sensor and the oil pressure sensor are somehow tied in together.

Mine was all over the place when weather was cold until engine was up to operating temp.

Well this is exactly the problem I’ve had with mine ! I changed the oil temp sensor. Where is the oil pressure sensor located ? I’m determined to get to the bottom of it. To the point I’ve even got another engine wiring harness to replace mine as a just in case.

I think he meant the coolant temp sensor, which is grey in a pipe at the front. Though, if not sure changing it will resolve it

Hi Pete. It’s such a bloody frustrating fault. As soon as the temp needle moves it idles and runs fine.

The oil temp sensor if it goes bad will read very low, like -33C. This can cause the engine revs to fluctuate. I had it on mine. Check the sensor output when the engine is cold and see what happens as you warm up engine.
