I have asked this question before about G4 vehicles. The event vehicles should have a plaque stating the number of the vehicle for that G4 Event.
Not entirely accurate as many weren't fitted, the event number plaque is available as a reproduction from the G4OC and states "This vehicle is one of X Number created for the 200X Challenge". They would normally have a fleet number in the centre of the windscreen near to the rear view mirror mount though. The Club can provide the fleet number if one was issued.

Then there were RRs, Defenders, Freelanders, etc that were genuine support vehicles but a lot of those weren't in the distinctive Tangiers Orange colour and different livery/decals.
All the support vehicles were Tangiers Orange and liveried the same as the event vehicles with the exception of two D3 Ambulances which were Silver for the 2009 event.

Then LR also sold G4 edition vehicles that were normally to a limited run, say 500, with decals and other mods.
The G4 Editions (2003/2004 D2, 90 and 110 models) we (G4OC) believe were limited to 200 of each model in Tangiers Orange, Java Black, Zambezi Silver and Borrego Yellow, Freelanders were never officially called Editions, but were issued in the same colour pallet, and marketed as "Kalahari"
Hope that helps.
What he says!!
Thanks DurtyDisco. I was living in SA in 2003 and remember seeing a whole bunch of LR G4 vehicles kitted out in the Tangiers Orange at an outdoor vehicle centre, whilst doing a publicity shoot.
There were a very few limited number of the brand new D2 edition vehicles for sale by LR South Africa at the time as well.2008 D3 HSE Stornoway Grey (UK)

You can buy my genuine G4 2005 V8 which I am selling shortly, but it's RHD...
If Oswiperus is correct then Sidestick will have to live with RHD if he wants one.
Wonder how hard the conversion would be ?.

For 2005 there were 38 D3s, a large number of which were LHD.

There were definitely some 'dealer specials' created in the UK, created a ripple of 'concern' as they were, subtly - just the right side of legal, being touted at inflated prices to unsuspecting punters.....
It's what we call them in the owners club, a little pet name. Same as the Camel Trophy Owners Club guys who refer to CT "replicas" as "Shamels"
Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery so they say, though for the cost of all the parts needed to create a replica, you may as well just buy a real one..... G4OC Secretary

Seen quite a few V8 D3's built for the 2006 Challenge in LHD, not seen any of the TDV6 08's in LHD though G4OC Secretary

I remember seeing an LR dealer in SA mock-up and spray an ex-demo model D3 in Tangiers orange, put some bolt-on goodies from the local Safari outdoor vehicle shop, and put locally printed decals on it, in a build-up to the 2009 event. A couple of years later I saw the same vehicle trying to be sold on an SA site as a genuine event vehicle!2008 D3 HSE Stornoway Grey (UK)

Nope, all the 2003 vehicles were straight off the production line, due to a miscalculation they where a few customers who didn’t get their expected delivery date because they had been diverted to the challenge, hence a few cars with odd specifications.
They then tent off to be painted tangiers orange and ended up in the shed as per the photo, all getting the decals and kit.
