Realignment

Hi

D4 went to the dealer today as the steering was off centre.

The dealer says the car needs to go to a realignment specialist and needs to be booked back in.

What is realignment? If it is just the tracking, why would it need to go to a specialist? Surely that is standard work for a dealer? Could they be referring to the chassis being out?

Would know the answers but SWMBO collected the car and didn’t ask, and the dealer is now closed.

Four wheel alignment I would guess.
Needs to be done by a professional. www.alignmycar.co.uk is a good site as it's for Hunter kit which is highly recommended
Not all dealers can do it I believe. Dealers that can are listed on that site Thumbs Up

Thanks. Will quiz them tomorrow.

Key question, is realignment covered by the warranty? Wheels haven’t been off and it hasn’t been off roads or smacked in to kerbs AFAIK but can imagine that cutting no mustard.

I was told mine needed a 4-wheel alignment at my last service though I hadn't noticed any issues.
Charged me £156 - is this about normal ?

Yes, I had a FL done 3 times before they got it right, it was pulling to the left.

Last time I had my D3 done with a Hunter it cost ..........£39 Shocked
 It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

Paid £95 I think for alignment using Hunter kit found on the align my car site already mentioned. My D4 was 2 years old and 23k miles when it needed doing as it ate a set of rear tyres and felt weird. Huge difference. No idea what caused it to be out of alignment so early on, it seems some just are.

Very little chance of being classed as warranty work I would have thought. Very few LR dealers will have the kit; those that say they can do it just sub it out to someone else and then charge you a huge mark up on the work.

Did any of you have the car put into tight tolerance mode (or something llke that) before doing the alignment?

I need mine doing but read you need above for it to be done right.

I did as I already had the IID tool to do it and the alignment place said they wouldn't have done it if I hadn't but I also found somewhere that said it didn't matter (didn't use them in the end as they were further away). Opinion seems to be mixed here as to whether you really need to or not.

Discoteca,

How did you do that with the IID? Last time I had 4 wheel alignment done, the lad saw I had the IID and asked if I could put the D4 into tight tolerance mode and I'll be honest I didn't have a clue how to do it! Embarassed
Would be useful to know how as the D4 is due in again for 4wd alignment (some bad roads in Ireland, was only done 4 months ago!)

Hmmm so mixed opinions then. I don’t have an IiD tool so would either have to find an alignment centre with facilities to do it or use a dealer. I know of a great alignment place in Huddersfield, so will see what he has to say.

Thanks all.
