Rear Brake Wear

Recently took my newly acquired '16 LR4 with 26k miles on it to a Land Rover Dealer for it's 2-yr/32k recommended maintenance service and a few warranty repair items.

The Dealer called and informed me that in part with their servicing and inspection of the vehicle found the rear disc brakes to be worn and in need of replacement (to which Land Rover replaces both the pads and rotors as well as a complete brake fluid flush).

My question to others here is: "Is it normal that a brake job is needed at 26K Miles (42k KMs)?"

I had a D3 some years back and handed it to the dealer as a part exchange with 96k miles on it and the same rear discs (a lof motorway miles granted) 8)

My current D4 is on disc set No. 2 having done about 65k on the first set.

So 26k seems very low............ unless someone has been very aggressive when it was new. Perhaps lived in a very hilly area needing a lot of braking?

Rear discs are not hard to change............ the LR price will be high Big Cry

Good luck.

Check what thickness of disc is left using a micrometer or similar and compare to the minimum values.
It’s not beyond my imagination to think maybe the dealer is trying to drum up some unnecessary work in a slow period.

Rear disks and pads changed on my D4 at 27k miles, you could see they were well shot / badly corroded and badly scored, through the wheel. I do a bit of towing so put it down to that.

Just changed my rear pads at 21,700 miles.
Well worn with not much life left in them.
I changed the front pads at 20.500 miles with about 60% wear when compared to the new ones.

It all depends on driving style! D4s are heavier on rears than D3s.
Just like tyres careful driver can get 50k plus out of a set, others can get less than 20k! It is a good indication of how the previous owner drove it, might be worthwhile getting the GB adaptions reset so that it can adapt to your style of driving if you are a steady driver Thumbs Up
 It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

It also depends on how many of those miles are clocked up doing motorway driving..

Disc rotors are now considered a consumable so possibly standard practice to replace, be interesting if they report on the brake shoes! And adjust properly seeing as the rotors are also the hand brake drum

My 16MY has also done 26k and I've ordered new pads all round following a recent brake inspection. The discs are fine but LR probably want to change both.
