Rear Brakes and Disc replacement

Hi all,
Anyone able to give words of wisdom around replacement brakes and discs?

Being a bit of a muppett, (and suffering from the credit crunch Crying or Very sad ) the replacement light came on a couple of weeks ago to tell me the rear pads had worn to the sensor.

Tonight while coming home I heared the familiar grinding of metal on metal (pad down to the metal Shocked )

So the question is, now I've got to replace the pads as soon as possible, but got to shell out for a new disc as well.
Can I replace just one or do they have to be an axle pair? (Lucky so far that it the nearside one thats gone so dont have to reset the hand brake, at least thats in my favour)

Help please Thumbs Up

It is a safety thing, the other one will not be very much different, so do them both or regret it later Thumbs Up

Even if you stupidly (IMHO) change only one disk, you will still have to adjust the epb. Is only the sensor that won't always need changing.

2.7 tonnes is a hell of a weight to mess about not keeping brakes in top condition.
I know you want to save the cash, but really, I'm guessing you carry your family or friends/collegaues around occasionally so it's not just you your putting at risk. If cash is that tight, seriously, sell the d3 and get a fiat punto.......

Thanks for all your help guys Mr. Green
and apologies if I've given the impression I'm after a quick bodge.

Bodsy, you're absolutely right, the most important thing I have in the car is at the weekend, and the cars usually at a wierd angle trying to defy gravity. Last thing I want is to find my actions are responsible for any accidents due to poor workmanship. Hence the question here, I want to be on the right side Thumbs Up

Anyone know the weather forecast for the weekend? looks like I'll be doing the brakes (and both discs)

Thanks again for all the help and assistance Bow down

BTW What's a Punto !!! Whistle

You will need to replace the sensor too. It's designed in such a way that it will be shagged by being crushed between the pad and disc.

You can get all the bits you need from TLO (The Large One) at Yeovil. He'll almost certainly have the parts in stock and you'll get the Disco3.uk discount too. Discs cost me £69.64 for a pair back in Feb when I did mine. Pads and sensor are around £40-£45 ISTR.

Have a search on the forum - there is plenty of information on changing the rear discs and pads and adjusting the EPB. Shame you don't live near Darlington - I could have given you a hand to do the job Sad !
