Rear discs
Hello
Over few days noticed a grinding noise from the nearside rear when braking, finally got round to having a look today. I was very surprised to see the state of the disc heavily grooved and pads seem very low on both sides.
I decided to bite the bullet and ring TLO (who I must say was, as is usual very helpful) ordered discs and pads for both front and rear, as the front have developed a bit of a lip and I have no idea how long they have been on the car.
I seem to recall reading on here about seized calipers and heat in the wheel or brake. Having just driven 5 miles back home I decide to feel the offending disc and wheel no heat feels just as cold as the other side I am hoping this is a good sign? How low do the pads need to get before I get a warning light on the dash as nothing has been displayed.
Cheers

The light on the dash is connected to a wear sensor that clips onto the pad (assuming it is there!)
there is only 1 per axle too so it is possible for pads to be shot without sensor being activated as it needs to be still in place & correctly positioned for it to be activated.
It is also possible that they were never replaced when pads were last replaced. they are only held in the groove on the pad by a spring clip. You won't know until you look.
Have you ordered new sensors from TLO too??
Cheers

Yes ordered the lot, front and rear discs and pads, clips and wear indicators. Nick said it should be here tomorrow. I'm just hoping the caliper is not the problem and that it is just very worn pads and discs. Interestingly read a thread which says the rear sensor is fitted to the offside, and its my nearside which has worn badly.

.
Mine was exactly the same, started hearing the grinding on the nearside and when i looked it was down to metal.
Driverside still had 1/4-1/2 inch left on it hence no dash light.
I have just changed the pads at the moment as i am going to be changing both front and rear disc's to drilled and grooved with kevlar pads in the near future. As i have said on another thread, this does not improve braking but apparently drastically reduces brake dust.

Cheers for the PDF files, just a little confused regarding the EPB.
Do I need to do anything with it or adjust it when changing the rear discs and pads?

Yep.
I believe you have to adjust the shoes on the epb for the new discs and then do the bedding in procedure.

Well the good news is all is now sorted. Have a mate who until recently was a Land Rover technician, has saved me a small fortune.
New discs and pads now fitted all round, did them yesterday. Nearside rear had worn down to metal on both sides and had a really good go at eating the disc, kinda makes a joke of the sensor being on the offside rear!
He also fitted new pressure sensor for the air compressor, new compressor was fitted two weeks ago. Interestingly he thinks the compressor that had been on my D3 was a salvage one owing to tippex type writing on it!
I am reliably informed by SWMBO that it now drives better than ever, as she has been using the car I might get to use it when I reach my days off!

Having just removed a dud compressor from a 05 plate and sourced a new and a used one from TLO, all 3 of them had tippex type writing on them so i'm assuming this is done at the factory.
