Rear parking sensors occasionally not activating

I'm starting to have a problem with my rear parking sensors not activating when reverse gear is selected.

Sometimes, when reverse is selected, there is no 'beep' from the rear parking sounder, and the parking system LED does not activate on the centre console.

Occasionally, 'wiggling' the gear selector gets it to activate so I has thought that there must a a failing microswitch somewhere.

But took a look at the wiring and electrical description and seems I could not be more wrong.

Seems the parking module is activated via the CANbus from the TCM when reverse gear is selected; doesn't really explain why a gentle 'wiggle' sometimes kicks the parking aid into life but does explain why a 'wiggle' doesn't always work.

Everything else about selecting reverse seems to work ok; lights come on, instrument cluster display changes.

Anyone got any experience or insight into this type of error?

Was going to say that there wasn't anything to find in scanning with my IID tool, but forgot I hadn't reset since I shorted everything last week, so had just about every fault known to Land Rover show up.

Thanks Pete, found it with a bit of digging.

Wonder if I need to take a look at my speed sensors at some point.

What I’m thinking is using my IID tool to see what the speed sensors are reporting when the car is still.

If I understand it correctly, the TCM sends notice on the CANBUS that it’s gone into reverse, and the parking assist module picks up on that.

If the two conditions are reverse gear and stationary, given I’ve got no CANBUS errors, then perhaps it’s one of the speed sensors?

Will see what I get when I get the time I guess.

Oh, thought I'd post an update.

Figured out what was going on.

For the sensors to activate, the car has to be at a complete stop.

I'd gotten so used to the car and its size, that I was letting it roll, so wasn't coming to a stop, so sensors never engaged.

If you don't get the beep, put your foot on the brake and wait.

It will beep
