Rear sunroof sunshade - spring gone

The spring that rolls the sunshade on my 2009 Discovery 3 HSE has gone, meaning the shade doesn't roll and unroll. Trivial I guess but annoying as it is the only fault on the car (at the moment).

Has anybody had this problem? I am guessing I have to take out the whole sunshade installation to see what the problem is, which will probably mean dropping the whole headlining, which looks like a pig of a job.

Anybody out there with any tips before I embark on this marathon.....?

The roller blinds are just like similar house roller blinds in which one end is spring loaded (I think the LH end) you move it to the side that is spring loaded and out it comes.

Just tried. Can't really get my fingers in and there was something very sharp on the RH side so now I have a big gash on my finger. Looks like I'm going to have to drop the roof lining. Sad

Sounds like you have found the fault - that is possibly the spring that winds up.

I think the fault will be relatively straightforward, the problem is getting to the blind.

I've looked at dropping the headliner and actually, it doesn't look too bad. When I've got a free day I think I'll have a go at it. Problem lies if I find I can't mend the blind there and then and then I have the dilemma of leaving the headliner out or putting it back until I get the spare part .......

Not willing to take mine out, but looking at it, it should come out without taking the headlining down. Having never done it I really cannot comment. A trip to the wrecking yard to try it out maybe Whistle

I'll do it, I just have to put my mind to it. I will be dropping the headlining because I feel I will need to to get to the spring mechanism but I'll take photos of the rollerblind. It's funny but I've been searching for post on this for ages and haven't found another yet but clearly I'm not unique on this problem.

To be honest this is normally the least of a problem with a D3!!
Hence why I haven't got around to have a proper look.
Busy with my new refurbed 18" rims and BF Goodrich tyres to put on (tomorrow!) plus a few light and grill upgrades. Thumbs Up Thumbs Up
But I will definitely have a look if you manage to locate the actual problem and how difficult it is to fix!
