Hi Everyone, having some trouble opening the rear tail gate? have tried all the options in the manual but it still will not open? The locking motor sounds ok, in that it is still making an opening or closing sound but the tail gate will still not open? Any ideas or previous knowledge would be appreciated

Not sure if its in the manual but if you hold down the lock and unlock buttons in the front for a few secs, that should open it.
if not then you better wait for more advice A happy childhood ... is the worst possible preparation for life.

Unfortunately it seems that you've got a common D3/LR3 problem - the cable has separated from the latch mechanism. If your D3 is under warranty, take it to the dealer. If not, you can do it yourself. It involves getting to the tailgate from inside. Use a screwdriver to pry the plastic trim on top of the lower tailgate, closer to the left side when facing the tailgate from inside, and pull the carpeted lower tailgate cover down. Then, through the openings in the lower tailgate sheetmetal you should be able to pull on the cable.
I think there was a nice write-up on this here or some other LR forum...

This has happened to me a couple of times now (and had the unit replaced). I now have my spare key set to open the boot on the LR button, so that if it happens again and I've got my dog box in the boot, it only takes one person to open the rear door.

Hi There, thanks for the help and the worksheet "tailgate Repair", successfully opened with a few scratches on my hands etc...............only prolem is the L shaped fixing on the end of the cable has sheared so not sure what to do now? I think I may have to replace full cable from lock assembly to the actuator. At least I can open the back from inside. Will check with the spares department at the garage.
