after cruising the length of the M40 in different volumes of rain last night, i noticed that the rear wiper responded to the sensitivity switch (auto wipers on HSE) by speeding up/slowing down the intermittent time between swipes dependant on position, but had absoluteley no effect on front wipers. In light drizzle wipers were too efficient and i had to revert to flick wipe..so much for auto function. is this correct or do i have problem  TDV6 HSE Buckingham Blue and still smiling

I`ve got the same super sensitive wipers too!
Spoke to the service dept to see if they could be made less sensitive but was told No!
My wipers drag across the screen making the worst noise ever if there is only slight drissle, and the rear wiper stops half way if the screen dries out, and has to be turned off, then wash wiped to reset.
Give me the old timer switch type any day...

The manual for my RRS states that the rotorary wiper switch adjusts the sensitivity of the front wiper sensor (on vehicles with automatic wipers). However, like you, I found it made no difference. It turns out that it acutally adjusts the delay of the rear wipe - from 4 seconds to 13 seconds.

I think the rainfall radar counts the drops not the amount of rain. As you say it operates too frequently in drizzle (lots of small drops) and not enough in light rain with big drops! D4 HSE
