Red thingy Tow bar slot cover |
|
Moved a boat about last night (2 1/2 tons) so had to put the (LR) tow bar on. Bit fiddly at first but no probs - That red thing's a bit wussy - does it ever fall off & if so does it matter ? not much muck seems to find its way up there (but mines only 2 months old ...)

Drove my previous D3 round for 11 months without it - no problems with ingress of muck that wasn't sorted with a quick blast from the jetwash

Mines never had one since it was 2 weeks old! It fell off on its own, and I have never bothered to replace it. No problems yet fitting or releasing the tow bracket. I squirt WD40 up the gap when I wash the car (also spray it in the tow electrics panel to supress the surface rust in there)

Yup ...lost my little red thingy as well.
Now got nothing to stick up the hole.
But all seems ok when I insert my towball.

I've still got mine despite some hard Km. I think you need to make sure the little lug is properly slotted in.
I drive on some very dusty roads and it has done a marvelous job at not stopping the dust! Have a nice day!

A lot of people, including dealers, actually put them in the wrong way round and they drop out. I did not find out until on my second D3, the clip goes to the front of the vehicle. I lost the original a couple of times, but relied on ones I found at the side of the road whilst out cycling. Apparantly our local dealer loses a lot of these plugs from their cars on the forecourts! If you don't want to loose it then cable tie it on. When you need to plug the hitch in then cut the ties.
I've not lost mine since it's tied up.
