Redeemed itself

My Discovery has recently done the multiple Christmas tree lights on the dash and been playing the bong game on the dash. I have replaced the brake switch and checked and reseated the tail lamp bulbs, I fitted a brand new battery and cleaned every electrical terminal I could find. Tightened the terminals up the light show and accompanying musical bings have ceased. My own code reader which is a cheap generic one says there are no stored codes.
Just completed an 800 mile week in it covering it problem free and warning light free.
I’m beginning to think it may have redeemed itself......

We had a D3 four years ago and like this one it felt as if it was not planted on fast bends. Wallows somehow. It doesn’t inspire confidence.
I’m thinking that perhaps the suspension is not equal on each corner? Recalibration would check if this was a fact?
It steers true and well. The tyre wear is even so I’m pr summing the tracking is good. The suspension rises and falls as per the switch tells it to do. Any ideas why it would feel like this?

It has returned 31 mpg at an average speed of just under 40 mph over the distance. 2.7 litre diesel, 2006 car.

If the car has done anything over 100k miles, I'd be inclined to look at the shocks

Mine was never planted, but always 100% predictable, but struggled with uneven road surfaces and unsettled when hitting a bump or change in road surface

Assuming of course the tyres/alignment are all good

Hi

Know when I replaced my front shocks along with worn out wishbone bushes , ARB , drop links it was like night and day of how it drove

Just under 100,000 and couldn’t agree more DM made the world of difference replacing the worn out original struts Thumbs Up

Mine are just short of 206k. Never dropped overnight, but the ride was pretty terrible by the time it came off the road

They certainly can do very well considering that mileage

Before changing mine I noticed it was worse over speed bumps of how spongy it felt

Front left dropped over night so felt seeing they were the same age it made sense to replace them as a pair

With it being my first D3 I didn’t have a comparison but indeed now know how they should drive

Assume it’s always a good practice to replace as a pair, ie same with wishbones etc on the same axle

Also made sure I bought the meyle HD drop links after reading cheap ones could snap

Car has 186,500 miles on it. Not sure if it has had shocks before. Will have to look through the paperwork which came with it and check I guess. Thanks for the replies.

I replaced the air springs and shocks on the front of my RRS a couple of weeks ago and it has transformed the ride. I've been so impressed that I shall be replacing the rears this week also.

I did it because it was easier to replace the struts as complete units rather than bu66a about. Thumbs Up

I can't remember exactly but it didn't cause me concern. Have a look on AF website. Its where I got mine from. I think I went for Dunlop units.

Plus 1 for front Dunlop’s , very pleased

Dont know if it’s normal but had to buy new nuts for the top of the struts as they didn’t come with the unit

Cost wise Think I paid £330 inc vat and delivery for the pair of front Dunlop complete struts

Pair Front meyle HD drop links £40 inc. vat

Will also replace the rear struts one day , think there around £360 inc vat for the pair
