They were discussing this on Monday's "Wake up to Money" on Five Live. They concluded that the Jap cars were amongst the worst offenders, although, the manufacturers blame the testing processes for the errors.

Does this mean my V8 doesnt do 50 mpg?

I've never got more than 39mpg from our Smart ForTwo, it's meant to return c.60mpg.
Driving it like a kart might have something to do with it Laughing
As such, I was expecting to average low 20's in the D3 but actually get c.27mpg, more on the m/way, which is IMO amazing.

I'm getting 55mpg from my Smart Roadster - essentially the same car in funkier clothing (in my opinion at least). And I'm driving it like the go kart that it is.

I get similar to you on the D3 - 27-30 town; 34 motorway.

I usually got 45mpg on 98 unleaded (it didn't like the 95 stuff) from my Roadster but I did kind of flog it a bit! Shocked New Aygo got 52 on 1st fill up do that makes up for it!
