Relationship between Main & Stop/Start batteries

I recently fitted a new AGM (Absorbent Glass Mat) battery & all seems well.

I must confess that I am not a great fan of Stop/Start and it certainly didn't worry me that it generally didn't cut in prior to fitting my new main battery.

However since I fitted the new main battery I have noticed that the the Stop/Start system is operating much more frequently.

Is this to be expected; or am I jumping to a wrong conclusion?

Yes, providing the battery is kept fully charged and like me you may start to like it, I think it is very good, mine is like being on a coil spring when it starts and take off is just as fast whether the engine is kept running or not.
 It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

I changed the main battery a few weeks ago and the stop/start immedietly functioned again. Over the previous weeks it would only operate for two or three days if the battery had been on the ctek charger.

The original battery was replaced under warranty after 6 months or so and its replacement lasted about 3 years. The car is now on its 3rd battery in 4 years. The small stop/start battery was replaced 6 months ago after a fault message came up on the dash - that battery was showing only 9 volts when removed. Thumbs Up

i'm just surprised it works before the car is warmed up (SWBOs Audi is the same). I sometimes disable when in slow traffic but apart from that if it saves a few hundred quid on tax and (allegedly) helps save the planet , it can't be a bad thing.

The general symptoms and diagnosis are:
Stop /start not working with no warning messages -main battery
Stop/start not available message - small stop/start battery (which keeps things running when engine stopped)
Best keep the main battery charged up between long runs.
Of course, there are other causes but in my experience, and from searching the forum these are the main causes.
Cheers

Agreed, though there is a tech bulliten for some 2015 cars (altough mine was out of the yr/vin range had same prob so possible old parts used at build) for a dodgy dual battery gateway module that is located near the stop/start battery. Had mine replaced recently and the battery to sort the problem Thumbs Up

States North American Market but worth a look.
see below 2014 and 2015 MY but only within said vin range. Mine was well outside this but had the same problem as my IID tool reported so im gueesing old part stock in my case or just unlucky. In any case all sorted now but more likely to be a battery fault on most even though the battery will seem fine. I dont really use my start/stop as not a fan but hate things not working which is strange since I own a LR Laughing Thumbs Up

Thanks for that. I am well outside the range. I will just leave it as I am not a big fan, although the LR response time is much better than that on my wife's Macan

Or low battery due to short runs, new battery fitted 9 months ago, worked then for a few days, then doesn’t, charge on the Ctek, works for a few days, then it stops again, even a two and half hour run still not enough for it to stop/start, Ctek on for a day and it works again, out of the eight lights on the Ctek, it needs a few days to get the eighth one to light up, 18 hours to get the seventh one lit.
