Ahhhhhh!!!!! Incredibly helpful thank you.

How do these ever come out of the chassis on an 55 plate?!

Just done mine on a 05 plate. The inner bolt on the chassis rail unbolts and leaves a threaded tube in the chassis. Put the bracket on with the original bolt. I think 08 onwards is different according to the instructions I had and needs a new bolt.

My one drivers side moved. I had to put a bar through a hole in the chassis and jack the bar up to lever the tube back into place.

Just a quick note to say thanks to all for the advice. Was exactly as you all said. Loads of soaking in penetrating oil, loads of patience, and then a decent socket/breaker bar on it.

I replaced it with the TL1. Without doubt an exceptional bit of kit. The customer support from Tow Trust was excellent (they know the D3 very well) and I appeared to get a huge discount after mentioning the forum.

Thanks again for the help - and a big recommendation for the TL1 - wish I'd done it years ago.

Thanks for this thread - the instructions from Tow Trust were minimal, and before googling extensively on here I'd been labouring under the mistaken impression that there was a single nut and bolt on my 2005 Disco rather than the arrangement (extremely helpfully) depicted above.

The it was really easy - just remove the two 18mm inner bolts. No need to mess with the 21mm Nuts on the outers at all.
