Removing RAI

No, it's not for sale so vultures stand down!!! Wink

Went to Autoglass to replace windscreen only to find that they couldn't do it with the RAI fitted. Didn't have the accessories fitting sheet with me nor any tools so headed home. Inverness stealer couldn't book me in til 8th March and was talking about 1hr labour to take off and same to refit.

Had a look at the crib sheet, looks easy enough to take off and then refit, is it?? Is it OK to drive with it off as A pillar trim is there, just with a hole in it (cover with gaffer tape)?? OK, will not have the nice trim but anything that might suffer/fall off??

Thoughts peeps? Question

It's a piece of p!ss Derek.
Remove the top and then inside there's an allen key bolt to remove
[which secures the top to the 'A' Pillar].
Then remove the 2 x bolts on the main body.
You can drive no problem without the RAI and no need for gaffer tape.

an 'hours work' .... they're pulling your plonker 5-10 min each way Thumbs Up

Isn't there a small collar or similar in the A-trim that you'd need to recover too? Can't recall.

And what a bunch of jobsworths! This is a 5 minute job, tops! What the hell is stopping them doing it themselves?
I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

Jobsworth indeed! Mind you at the time I didn't know what to do otherwise I'd have scrounged the tools from them. Sad

Not too worried about the plod & the crack, weather is talking about 3 days of snow here. 1st day Smile 2nd day Neutral 3rd day Sad

I would say 10 minutes taking it easy including a 5 minute tea break... Thumbs Up

As Al mentions, there is a small spacer (like a very thick washer) that goes in the hole in the top of the A pillar trim - don't lose it in the 2 foot of snow that is likely to be under your D3 Derek Laughing
