Removing Spare Tire/Tyre Spacers
So after reading through ~100+ posts resulting from my searches, I haven't seen this yet. I have a full size spare 19" that came with my '08 HSE, and I replaced is with a 285/60/18 Cooper Zeon LTZ. It still fits up underneath if you deflate it to ~15 psi. But now the width of the tire makes it stick out a little too much, IMO. There are four ~2" Oreo cookie shaped spacers on the underbody where the tire goes. Seems like you could just pop those off and give yourself more room to pull the wider tire up farther, to make it stick out less. Has anyone tried this?
Here's a picture of what I'm talking about. The spare compartment is at the top. The cable and winder are in the middle. The four spacers are mounted in a square centered around the cable. I'm concerned that without the spacers, the winder might hit the wheel and keep you from being able to fully wind it in tight. Thanks for any thoughts or help.

I can't answer your question directly, but LR say to remove the spare from this position before going offroad.
I believe some Aussie D3 drivers have ended up with damaged spares through leaving them there.
When time permits, I'll be fitting a rear wheel carrier.

I took the spacers out to get the hitch receiver to fit with a 285/60/R18 spare.I'm not so good at giving advice...may I offer you a sarcastic comment instead?
