United Kingdom 2006 Discovery 3 TDV6 Metropolis LE Auto Bonatti GreyDiscovery 3

The Audi 6 pot diesels are very nice engines, not sure what the latest bhp is but Im sure its impressive, the Merc 6 pots also sound very nice indeed.

Thumbs Up I've got an A8 quattro with the V6 diesel, it's approaching its 6th birthday but remains a superb road car. Engine is a stonker. 0-60 about 6.5 sec and 45MPG. Not at the same time obviously.

No 6 pot GLA (or apart from the AMG, the GLC) either Sad

X3 a contender for sure if we could lose the runflats.

Porsche Macan was in until I saw the boot. It's smaller than a Polo.

The SO's X3 has non-runflats on 17" rims. No spare though Sad

Worth talking to a dealer about tyre options. Common for people to swap out runflats anyway.

So, when we bought the Disco all those years ago we decided to keep it until winter 2016, and here we are; that time has come. Been a totally brilliant thing, I love it.

However, all the reasons we needed it have now mostly gone - kids grown and mobile, no big house out in the wilds of nowhere to get to in winter and to buy stuff for, no parties of children's school friends to ferry about, not going camping any more.

Other than its obvious qualities, it's expensive, thirsty, noisy, and slow.

Question is, what to get to replace it. We want something smaller, more economical, probably more car-like but still with that commanding driving position and a decent boot / luggage space. 4WD a bonus. No offroad needs. Auto.

SWMBO likes the look of the Evoque but it's microscopic inside. We're going to look at the D5 when it's in, but I'm not thinking it's a good use of our pennies.

New or used.

Ideas?

So, here's the thing. D3 has been bought by Disco dazboy of this forum Thumbs Up I have to say I'm sorry to see it go but hopefully gone to an appreciative new owner... and

We've bought a new Evoque. 4 Cyl diesel. Thud but to be honest it was OK to drive, did 42 mpg on our 100mile test drive. And it's a lovely place to be, Mrs A1 loves it, and we can buy and run it using less money that it was coating to run the D3. So it's actually cheaper. OK that's man maths but still true.

Time will tell I guess but I'm missing seeing the old girl on the drive.

Thumbs Up

I had an FFRR for <12 months, some good about it, but mostly not good. Sold at a large loss.

D3 very capable. Evoque a different beast.

LR desperately need a performance Evoque. It's crying out for a "hot" version- although a performance petrol version would get my vote over an oil burner.

Yes that's a definite gap. The TD4 2.0 is perfectly acceptable but no way a performance variant. I guess the target market doesn't warrant the cost of developing and marketing it.

That will have had nothing to do with firm information from Land Rover and everything to do with the intern at Autocar having not only been given access to PhotoShop, but also to their entire stock of Tippex thinners! Rolling Eyes

It's still on the cards, but now called Range Rover Sport Coupé or Range Rover Velar.
