Out of interest where did you advertise it ? Mine will be getting moved on once it arrives back to Scotland. Engine has gone (not sure why but either timing belt or crankshaft) and will be sold as spares or repairs. Roughly about 35% of it is brand new ! Including air compressor, brakes, tyres etc etcJames favourite hobby is writing in the third person.

Whilst the cost of of a replacement engine might be the same as the vehicle value, at least you will have a vehicle that you 'know' and has been well maintained. If you buy another one then you are into the unknown again.New Defender L663 110 SE (known as Noddy!)

I would also be questioning why the engine had no noise before it went in to Land rover, it wouldnt be the first time somebody forgot to put engine oil in after a service.
I had a brand new engine fitted under warranty that made it less than 500 yards before siezing, turned out it only had 1ltr of oil in the sump. At least the garage owned up and paid for another engine.

Yes, my tame LR mechanic reports he's done a few of these. Have to move some of the ancillaries around but does work and fit.Tony

Moo I am done with LR. I need a main car to do a lot and also be reliable to get down to the South of France and tow horses week in and week out. . Replacing the engine isn’t an option for us. It could well be for others if they have the time and skills. I do know the car inside out but cutting my losses and going for something with a decent warranty and can offer the same sort of ability. Appreciate the car we are considering won’t be as refined or have the LR brand but will be cheaper to run and maintain. 7 year bumper to Bumper warranty is also very appealing.James favourite hobby is writing in the third person.

Potentially a Ssangyong Rexton Ultimate. We can get a brand new OTR for £33k. Buy the service plan and assuming Ssangyong don’t go bust we should get 7 years out of it. Appreciate we could get a decent D4 for the same money but the crankshaft issues scares the crap out of me and don’t see why I should have to get warranty on a car. Appreciate the chances of the crank shaft going are minimal but the risk is there. We have a Ssangyong dealer in Coldstream near to where we live and they are meant to be reliable. 2 wheel drive, or can be 4 wheel and also has low range. Can tow 3.5 tons also and has lots of driver aids on it and decent multimedia. I haven’t driven one yet as still in a france but we will when we are back. If we don’t like it then it may be back to the drawing board. Styling of it on the outside is interesting shall we say, but could say the same about a D5 !!James favourite hobby is writing in the third person.

Doesn’t look that bad styling wise. I admit I had to google it to see what one looks like, plus I didn’t know they did a 7 year warranty.

Same here re the D4 crank issue, small risk but big consequences and stress we decided we didn’t need.

Done a lot of research while out here and also saw one in the flesh so to speak on the campsite. The one we saw was an ultimate with the 7 seats. Like the Disco with the rear seats up in the boot not a lot of storage but we only need the 7 seats for rugby and football so won’t be taking a huge amount anyway. Only thing it doesn’t have is air suspension (but I have had to buy 3 compressors Over the last 10 years) so won’t really miss that. While we will need to go off road a bit it won’t see anything crazy tough anyway. Apparently Ssangyong are trying to get into the Disco market but with a better pricing point. We are joining the NFU which then gives you another £1k off list price hence £33k. Ssangyong must be confident in relatability to offer 7 years or 150 k mileage.James favourite hobby is writing in the third person.
