Replacement key ?
Hi all , I am wanting to get a spare key for my 06 discovery 3 , is it best to go main dealers or is there anywhere else I can get one from , I have an iid bluetooth unit so can programme it my self , then just get it cut ,currently my buttons are playing up and my spare is just an emergency key .
Any info would be gratefully recieved [/list]

so a dealer will charge £100+
A lot of us have purchased keys off ebay china. At maybe £20.
Some work and some don't so it's a bit hit and miss! when you do to program with the IID.
All keys should be available when you program.
You then need to sort the blade yourself (either a local key cutter to cut the blank or again ebay if you don't have one local)
Search on here. or ebay
Do let us know if you if you have good or bad luck to help others

Here are some examples. I don’t know if they work or not.
Always check the frequency MHz is the same as printed in yours

Hi thanks for the reply , I rang a local land rover specialist who quoted me £258 inc vat lol but they would programme it which I didn't want I've ordered a repair kit with battery to hopefully fix mine but really wanted a good second key for the wife , does anyone know how much a genuine spare is , I tried my local main dealer today and kept getting cut off , I'll try them again tomorrow ,
With regards to the ones on ebay I guess the mhz of my key is printed inside?

£258................fork in hell.
I'm sure there was a thread recently where the new key was in the region of £50 and 2 mins with an IID had it all sorted.
Large saving alert.

So at a guess I'd say someone has been here before 🤣 there was tape where the mhz label should be and this is what is underneath looks like someone used a chainsaw to open it up, I've just ordered an ebay 433mhz key and will see how i get on lol it's worth a try at 15 quid just gotta get the blade cut fingers crossed

Had a bit of difficulty in getting it cut by local key cutters, said blade too hard and would damage their machines. So went to Timpsons in the local Sainsburys - no problem and was better fit than the old one. Simple to program with the iiD tool - very easy even for me!
Works fine and no issues to date.

Just replaced the key body and put a guide on how to open the old one up without butchering it:

Cheers m8 , so I bought a cheap case and repair kit ,aswell as a full key with 433mhz
So I opened up my original key to find only the battery solder was broken 👍 so I changed all my circuit board etc over re soldered the battery , got the blade cut at timpsons and hey presto it all works again 👍
2nd I had the new complete 433mhz key then put my old blade onto the new fob , programmed it with my iid tool and also works like a treat so for a grand total of about 40 quid I now have 2 keys that work , it was a guess on the mhz key as had no idea what my key was but thanks for all the info on this site I didn't have to spend a fortune for a landrover key lol 👍
