Replacing the speaker in the tail gate / boot?
Hi there,
I have just noticed whilst messing about in the back of the car, that there is a muffled, cracking sound coming from my tail gate! Sounds like either some sort of animal crawled down there and is suffocating on a tissue whilst banging its head against the door - or my speaker has blown!!
Does anyone happen to know if you can buy direct replacements - and in fact if its worth repairing? Also can you buy upgrades that fit? Bear in mind im not handy and very good at breaking stuff when I try to be!
Also - how do I tell what audio setup I have? Wether its the standard HK or the Logic 7? Would it have that written on it like it does in the 3?
Thanks.

there is no speaker in the tailgate of a D3/D4.
The noise must be something else

So behind the carpet, what would be the point of that?

OK, looks like I'm wrong - just dont see the point of a speaker behind a layer of carpet.

hi Al cope
hope u didn’t think i was being rude in any way
does seem strange with it buried behind a cover like that , unless there are some slots at the side to allow the sound to come out ??

Ah brilliant - good man. Sounds like something I may be able to have a go at!! So - what to replace it with, can you upgrade the sub, or replace with original? And if original, wonder where I get that from!
Original part number for the woofer is XQA500130. circa £150 from LR
Wouldn't go for an upgrade as you won't notice the difference. However I'm sure you can get similar rated units on the market a lot cheaper.

@ gstuart - no problem mate - I guess the angle I was looking at it from was why anyone would put a speaker behind some carpet in a platform you can stand on, that when closed with stuff in the boot and cover closed seems to be pretty pointless. Just goes to show how LR can catch folks (me) out

Its not a speaker as such, its a subwoofer which uses the tailgate to amplify the bass frequency.
