Hello Mr barleybaron. Don't know if it's a DIY job to replace sensor but are you certain it's the sensor? I know it's been posted on here a lot but have you tried going through the gears in low range and re calibrating? Aslo it could be clutch on way out if you have manual.
EDIT= ohh yeah what Q86ARR wrote below

Symptom 506000 Clutch Concerns

Issue:
Customer may report a concern that when the clutch pedal is fully released the engine ‘races’ during acceleration predominantly at low speeds in higher gears. This maybe accompanied by a loss of the gear position display on the instrument cluster and/or the park brake light being illuminated. Investigation using diagnostic equipment reveals the trouble code (DTC) P0820 is stored. This DTC leads to incorrect replacement of the XYZ switch located on top of the transmission, part number TXM500040. Warranty returns have shown that over 95% of XYZ switches replaced are no fault found when tested.

Cause:
Driver constantly resting their foot on the clutch pedal ("riding the clutch"). This partially releases the clutch and generates clutch slip. This slip of the clutch causes the implausibility check in the ECU to flag an XYZ sensor fault due to road speed not matching the gear selected.
In addition riding the clutch increases heat build up in the clutch, if this is prolonged the clutch slip will increase and can ultimately lead to premature clutch failure, possibly causing irreversible damage to the clutch facings, pressure plate and flywheel.

Action:
Should a customer express concern regarding the above symptoms do not change the XYZ switch (TXM500040), as riding the clutch (and induced clutch slip) is likely to be the root cause of the problem.
PLEASE NOTE - It is not good driving practice to ride the clutch (resting foot on the clutch pedal, when not changing gear), the driver of the vehicle should be advised to use the left foot rest adjacent to the pedal to avoid further occurrences of this problem in the future.
