Restricted Performance thoughts?
Hi,
I have a 2010 D4 which has just passed 100.000 miles, I´ve owned the car since march this year.
All services etc have been done at land rover and the car has been extremely well taken care of by the previous owner, who had it since new.
For the last couple of months I get random "restricted performance" messages. in 99 % of the time it is after short trips (around 3-4 miles). When leaving kids at school I almost always get the message when turning the car on to go back home.
However I cant say I notice anything different about the car or performance...
Also, I should say that the message goes away after the car has been parked an hour or two i.e. it only happens directly after short drives and then disapears again...
Any ideas what this could be?
Grateful for any response!
Jonas

That can be quite a few varied faults to give restr. Perf.
Try for a local member with a plugin tool, and I'm sure you'll be able to diagnose from there.2011 MY D4 HSE

My bet, split manifold. You're lucky to have got to 100k without it happening. It'll likely be one side or the other but both will likely go before you get to 110-115k.
Lift the engine cover and checked for oil mist on the underside of the cover. And do a search on here for split manifold...plenty of pics to show what I'm referring to.

Could be the fuel/water sensor showing water in the filter, even when there isn't any They seen to fail, and it brings up restricted performance.
You basically need to get the codes read.

Had similar on mine same age and mileage and usually after a good run It disappeared, never affected the performance.
Replaced the fuel filter housing at next service and never came back again. Housing came with a new fuel filter as well so a cheap fix if being done as part of the service. Seemed to be a fairly common fault when I spoke to my Indy as the moisture gets into the sensor. IID Tool

Its worth noting that there's different amounts of restricted performance!
I had an ongoing issue with restricted performance earlier this summer, the D4 would still tow the tin shed at around 50 mph, less on hills, across the Alps until the fault was cleared.
This was something to do with the turbo change over solenoid (LR would not tell me exactly).
I've just had a MAF failure which resulted in restricted performance. The car was almost undriveable - no power at all, vastly different to the first issue.
HTH,
Sandy.

Thanks for all replies so far - much appreciated!
Hoping its one of the minor issues rather than split manifolds which sounds like a pain in the a**
Appointment with local LR to run diagnostics later this week (fingers crossed)

@robpenrose @DrewLR4 - Turns out you were right, replaced the whole housing including filter and all good now.
@Sandyh My AMF gave up a bit later, this lead to yellow check engine light tho
Thanks all for the input!

So presumably you had this code..
PCM-Engine SDV6 • P2264-00 (Water in fuel sensor circuit)
An easy diagnosis if the car is plugged in at the earliest opportunity and saves alot of guesswork.2011 MY D4 HSE
