Why does a car of 60 kEUR worth doesn’t have a simple grab handle in the loadspace cover ? Mostly you don’t grab the flappy backside hard enough so that it slips out of your hand and retracts; with dirty hands you leave marks of your fingertips on it … So one of my first actions was retrofitting a handle to the cover.
For this purpose I bought a handle from an Audi A4, part number is 8D9 862 565 with color code 4PK. The handle consists of an upper part and a lower part with a spring-driven flap:

Place the upper part upside down on the loadspace cover and mark the inner cutout area. Add 10 mm on the upper edge, 3 mm to each side and 5 mm to the lower edge. This gives you the real cutout zone:

Cut the plastic with a sharp knife, drill a hole in the wood and cut the wood using a jigsaw. Don’t cut too much, it’s better to widen the hole using a file after testing if the handle already fits the hole. Now fit the upper part of the handle and place the lower part to the downside of the cover. Mount both delivered screws. Ready:

The grab handle costs here in germany about 24 EUR, the mounting takes about half an hour.

Excellent modification - especially for those with short legs who can't reach to retreave the cover when it slips out of your fingers

This is a brilliant idea - but I can't seem to find this part available any more in the UK. Does anyone know of an alternative part number that's similar?

I did find the audi part number for the beige version of the handle (for those of us with the light interior) as they did this as well as black, but I cant find it now

Been meaning to do this mod for a while now. Ordered the part months back, only seen it today, i have the almond interior and duly ordered it with colour code 1FU. Its not bad just a bit darker than the interior of the disco.
Trying to search to see if there are any other colours that might be a closer match but as of yet no joy with what options are available. Now with: Tow bar & storage, Xenon's, Remote Timed Climate, Mood Lighting, Cubby Fridge, DRL's & Mud Flaps
Accessories: Rubber Mats, Spare Wheel Cover, LR Tyre Pressure Gauge, Warning Triangle, LED's throughout & Leather Gear Selector Top
Further Planned retrofits: 13 pin Tow Electrics & Heated Steering Wheel
