Reversing camera wiring help |
|
I've now got on order all the bits to hook up a reversing camera to my D3 and am just wondering how people have gone about with feeding the wiring from the tailgate latch to wherever their video input is?
I (will) have the Vision camera which is tailgate handle mounted and thinking of powering it (and the GVIF interface reverse gear wire) from the fuse of the reversing lights in the boot. The video feed cable would terminate under the passenger seat at the GVIF.
It seems however that to do it properly, one needs to go around the tailgate window, up through the existing cable tube, through the lining and down the pillar next to the passenger seat (for the video feed)
Any pics of the installation or tips will be very appreciated

I have installed tailgate handle camera in anticipation of the GVIF arriving. I ran wire through tailgate down to the left hand rear compartment for the moment until I install interface. Tricky getting the plugs down through the convoluted tube from tailgate to body.

Biz,
I ran my wire around the tailgate window, through the left hand rubber convoluted tube and along the left side of the roof, cliping it behind the curtain airbag, down the A pillar and behind the top glovebox to the screen.
Put plenty of silicone lubricant like WD40 on the cable plug before you try to push it through the convoluted rubber tube as this eases it's passage.
Getting the lining down and more importantly back up should not be under-estimated. It is a time consuming task that is difficult with one person.
It would probably be easier for you to run it down the D pillar trim rather than above the head lining.
