Front wheel: Toe out or Toe in? |
|
I understand that the "total toe" (which presumably means the two front wheels taken together) for Discovery 3 2007 and later is specified as "+0.16 degrees".
Does the "+" mean that it's toe out or toe in?
Many thanks in advance.
Stephen

You should be so lucky - my Spitfire has a toe-in of 1/8-1/16"
What I'm yet to find out is where the measurement is taken Mark.

I have always taken it at the wheel rim edge, not the tyres. An angle is much better definition, but when it was 1/16" or so the equipment was not readily available. I used a piece of string on my S1 LR and when checked was spot on.

IIRC correctly from my dim and distant past course on such things - doesn't the toe in toe out have something to do with whether it is front/rear/4x4 drive? D3 07 SE - still going strong

D3 05 HSE - gone to a divorce diet

In the past, rear wheel drive was usually toe in as when moving the front wheels would splay out on the bushes and front wheel toe out as the wheels would pull forward to more parallel when driving. With modern set ups I think all sorts of things come into play.

Oh for the good old days when you could maintain your own vehicle with a Halfords £9.99 105 piece toolkit (plus a torque wrench) and a Haines manual... D3 07 SE - still going strong

To be fair Professor, I can do just about anything on my Spitfire with said tools
And access to things like the engine and front brakes and suspension is just brilliant. Can sit on the wheel and tinker with the engine
Underneath is a little more challenging though! Mark.
