Easy justification really... unfortunately.
And most things are less expensive on the surface over there.
1. Exchange rate is very favourable towards the UK so price is distorted.
2. Far far larger potential market - volume brings down prices for most products.
3. Competitive product pricing is very low too compared to the UK... if LR are too expensive they will not sell any. Already LR is seen as a premium brand above US product.
4. Income in the US is generally below the UK so even though LR product appears cheap to us... its still expensive to the American's.
Many more reasons I'm sure our American friends can highlight...

yep... comparable positions in the US tend to be paid less that us if you do a straight exchange. But then their cost of living (especially luxury goods) is lower.

It is typical that a car manufacturer prices its products higher on the domestic market.
Skoda is more expensive in the czech rep than elsewhere
Renault, peugeot and citroen are more expensive in france than elsewhere
and so on....
They hope the population is a bit patriot...
2. England has always been an expensive car market. It is simple: paralel channels from other countries in europe are almost non existent. Simply because of the left hand driving.
I bought my LR in Belgium because in Czech it would be about 20% more!
It's amazing but true. And since guarantee is international, nothing to worry about. Import is easy due to the european union. I took the plane to Belgium and returned by car.
But where can an Englishmen buy his left hand car? In Hong kong, Australia, Vietnam, India, New zeeland, Zimbabwe ....?

£48720 - £28394 = a lot of fuel on which to run a V8 £20326. And at US pump prices, £20326 goes a long way...
So why is the TDV6 so poPular here? D3 HSE V8...

It's not a matter of average wage, If not the D3 should cost, here, 25% of the Belgian (or UK) prices. In reality they cost 120% of Belgian prices.

Czechs a really fools : what they got in their head they must have, even if they devastate the family budget.
2.
What some importers don't get into their heads:
if you sell a car at a good price you get good sales volume which decreases transport and overhead costs, a lower unit margin but a good total margin.
If you overprice the car, you get excellent sales margin but high overhead.
IN prague they choose the second alternative.
