Rivnut

Can anyone please tell me the metallurgical differences between these two Rivnuts apart from the fact one is half hexagonal and a different colour from the other.

They are both the same LR part number, the sub code is different, but it might be the finish more than anything else. Wink

I'd expect it will be multiple suppliers that meet standard specification requirements but are 'different' be that colour, shape, etc. but will meet same design performance and hence why have same part numbers meaning fully interchangeable

Havent a clue, we have both types at work and I try and avoid the hex ones as I like them to be a snug fit in the hole and I always feel thats not possible with the hex design.

I was intrigued so googled and found this on http://aerobolt.com.au/products/threaded-inserts/hex-nutsert

Quote:
Hex Nutsert
Hexagon shape for maximum resistance to unscrewing.
Hex nutserts are hexagon shaped nutserts that are designed for use in punched hex shape holes, they provide exceptional resistance to spinning (i.e. can't be unscrewed). We have both half hex and full hex shape for extra strength.
Often called hex inserts, hexserts, hex threaded inserts etc. they are ideal for applications where failure is not an option.

Thanks, the replies are appreciated. Just a point of curiosity and I wondered if they basically had identical strength. Bow down

I was lead to believe the black ones were Defender OEM and the silver metal ones Disco, but that’s probably a heap of tosh.

On the other hand I see the reasoning behind Defender owners having black nuts? Whistle

would make sense that the hex version is rattle-proof and is thus for the Deafener. Whistle
